"Hi folks, like many people my partner is finding that Sculptra isn't reallyworking for him any more. His primary HIV care doc - who is GREAT - is veryconservative and doesn't want him doing anything permanent. But, the docwho has been doing the Sculptra is encouraging him to consider silicone orPMMA for his deflated cheeks. The primary care doc has asked if we can comeup with some recent research on lipo-related administration of siliconeand/or PMMA. Can anyone point me in the right direction? THANKS!"I don't know of anything "recent." The trial that was being done with medical grade silicone seems to have vanished into a patent dispute. I don't think there ever was a clinical trial for PMMA with lipoatrophy, specifically.I've used both. I like medical-grade silicone for the face, and areas that are not "dependent." PMMA for the butt/extremities.JB

, can u elaborate on what u mean by " dependent " ? also, is there some

version of the silicone facial filler u prefer, or some version of the procedure

involved?

By " dependent, " I mean areas like the arms, legs and extremities. Places that

hang down, letting gravity pull. Areas subject to mechanical pressures, too.

I would only use the FDA approved silicone that is used in eye operations. I

would ONLY get it from a licensed MD

Drag queens with needles in hotel rooms inject radiator stop leak, brake fluid,

and concrete. Do not do this

Dr Gerald Pierone in Florida is about to do a study with Artefill (PMMA) in HIV.  He is a member of this group but I have not seen him post in a while...
