Assunto: [ ] Intolerant to both Gleevec and Sprycel (cross post)

Hi,

I am a new member and have joined this group on behalf of my mother who

lives in Europe. She is 64 yrs. old and was diagnosed with CML in Nov 09.

She was put on Gleevec immediately after diagnosis and she very quickly went

into remission. Gleevec was doing an awesome job on the CML ,but as it turns

out her liver was not tolerating the drug. She was recently switched to

Sprycel and now we just found out that her liver does not tolerate this drug

either. I cannot find any information out there regarding intolerance to

both drugs. Her doctors in Europe are scratching their heads, as all of

their patients with these types of liver reactions have done well when

switched to the other drug.

I am curious if anyone on this group has experience with multi drug

intolerance. Also, I live near s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and my

mother is coming for a visit in September. Anyone on this forum working with

doctors there? Just wondering if it might be worth a consultation, although

my mom does feel that she is in competent hands in Denmark.I can't help but

hope that perhaps there is a study or perhaps the experts at Hopkins are

further ahead in their research.

I appreciate any input- as we can't bear to think that she might have run

out of options. Her doctors have told her that having a BMT at her age is

very risky, although she is extremely fit and healthy and active otherwise.

Thanks so much and I am looking forward to your insights!

Charlotte
