Guest guest
Dear Karine, This is in response to your mother's swelling. Edema can come at any time and any place when you are on TKI's, it's not only on Gleevec I am on Tasigna and my legs are getting the brunt of my swelling. Has she had a thorough physical and asked her oncologist? You also mentioned taking steroids for gout. Has the doctor mentioned Allopurinal to keep it under control? This will have to be taken daily, it's a big orange pill and is a cheap generic drug. I found when I started Tasigna that I had tested positive for gout and had it in my little finger. MDACC told me to begin taking the Allopurinal to get it under control before I started Tasigna. She should have regular metobolic panel tests run to see what her uric acid levels are and that is one indicator. The other will show up in her painful joints. Here is just one website you can visit to get more information: http://www.uloric.com/lowering-uric-acid/allopurinol-comparison.aspx?sourcecode=\ GSCRMKWGOOU000135 & gclid=CMbk0_D4z6MCFRRjnAodllViwA Hope everything works out for her and bless you for helping with her care.
