I often use corseting for malignant ascites. If need be the patient

must be tapped to reduce the load to a manageable amount. For

example, if approximately four liters is in the abdomen, drain two

liters. This is also a good opportunity to administer

intraperitoneal meds. The liquid that is drained can be filtered,

refrigerated, and administered to the patient as an IV at a later

time -- especially if the albumin is low.

Corset the patient the patient immediately after the

paracentesis. It must be tight but not so tight that the patient has

problems breathing. For complete coverage I often recommend two

medical corsets at different heights going from the costal margin to

the pubes. If the lower area is not compressed liquid will tend to

accumulate there, so I have the patient roll up a towel for insertion

under the lower corset. Over the next week or so the patient will

usually take up the remaining fluid.

The corset must become the patient's new best friend. It should be

removed for bathing and then immediately reapplied. Some patients

may have to wear this off and on for months until the underlying

problem is resolved.

This is not standard medical practice although variations of this

have been used by bold practitioners in the US and France for 200

years. Corseting can also be done in ascites associated with

cirrhosis of the liver.

ie- did you try googling " ascites herbs " ? There is a lot of

material. I don't want to get into a position of prescribing but you

might want to research a couple of Chinese formulas used for ascites,

Golden Box and Dynamic Warrior. Other herbs you might want to research

from an herb book (The Energetics of Western Herbs by Holmes)

that has some classes of herbs that act on fluid build-up in the

abdomen by different means-

Class 2 Draining diuretics- Promote urination, drain fluid congestion,

relieve edema, dissolve deposits-

Lovage root, Goldenrod herb, Couch grass root, Scotch Broom, Dandelion

leaf, European Elder bark

Class 9 Herbs to enrich Liver Parasympathetic system, Nourish the blood

and relieve fatigue, relieve edema and dissolve deposits-

Artichoke leaf, Nettle herb, Chicory root

Class 13 Cool diuretic depurant detoxicants- Herbs to promote

detoxification, clear damp and dissolve deposits-

Echinacea root, Chaparral leaf, Cleavers herb, Red clover flower,

Violet root/herb, Poke root, Garlic bulb, Yellow dock root, Solanum

Long Kui, Sophora Ku Shen, Oldenlandia Bai Hua She She Cao.

Some herbal formulas will combine several of these herbs.

I hope this helps,
