Guest guest
Teela, hi there. When anyone checks in on a member its because we care! We know things are tough for you now, and will be over the next few months, and we are all here to give you the support you need. The Hoarding List is a working list moderated by Dr. Jim Claiborn. Expect to feel anxiety and meet your goals!! I have several hoarders here and things can get quite overloaded! We have been able to reduce tons of stuff using therapeutic techniques. When I notice a return of symptoms I address the cause of the anxiety and we go back to the sorting and disposing! > I am not really sure if it is ocd related or not. Lately she has been saying she doens't like two of the boys at her daycare simply because she doesn't like the sound of their voices. < Teela, in this case you can ask Summer what she feels like when she hears the boys' voices? Is it the words, the way they speak, or the sound of their voices? If she describes anxiety or discomfort then this COULD be ocd. IF she says they do cause her anxiety, then there are a couple of things you can do: Explain to her that they cannot change, so its up to her to change. " When OCD tells you to not like something, it could be ocd tricking her! " Summer needs to tell those thoughts that the boys are like that whether OCD likes it or not! With help, maybe Summer could try to play with the boys a little at a time until they no longer cause her discomfort? You take care, the sooner you start your own therapy the better you will be at coping with summer. Let me know if I can help out. wendy in canada ________________________________________________________________________________\ _____ Get more from the Web. Guest guest
, Summer says it is definately the sound of the voices. i know these two little boys she is talking about and one has a very rough gravelly voice and the other is very high pitched. One of the things I run into with Summer is that she doesn't sahre with me so it is really hard to get her to talk about these things. What I get about her days away from me are that she eats nothing, plays with no one, no one talks to her and she does nothing. Even if I am told or witness her day myself. Thanks for caring! hugs Teela _______________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Teela, it seems Kel and Summer share a lack of reporting skills! I just wanted to say that Kel also has had negative reactions to kids based on how their voices sound. I don't have a lot of insight here though I assume it's OCD in some way, or more likely sensory issues. Kel is aware it's not fair not to like someone because of this, she just says the voice bothers or annoys her. Guest guest
Hi Teela, This has been a pretty good week for Summer from the look of your posts! Wearing PJ's, clothing until its dirty, and things in her hair - good for you both! Don't worry if there are times that Summer isnt articulating things to you. People sometimes keep things inside until they are able express themselves. The easiest way for you is to provide the opportunities for Summer to talk to you, which i'm sure you do. I find that driving in the car, doing a craft or playing a game is the time that the kids will bring things up that they want to run by me. Maybe Summer would like to draw a picture of her day and explain it to you? Maybe Summer would feel more comfortable meeting with kids individually? Is there a child in the day care that she would like to have over for a play date? Maybe they could have lunch together in Mcs Playland and then return to your place for some one on one time? Some kids may need encouragement to develop their social skills. Does the day care consider this to be an issue for Summer? if so, what do they suggest? Summer MAY feel anxious after the play time, dont worry, its a reaction that will go away! I would explain to her how well she did and discuss anything that you think would ease her concerns. You mentioned a while back that Summer is attached to her stroller. Since there will be a new baby around, have you removed the items in your place that are more age appropriate for an younger child - like the stroller?? When the tom was 4 and adi was 1.5, I used a wagon instead of a stroller! (ziv is 3.5 years younger than adi) I found that allowing a separation of items between kids helped with the division of possessions. I actually put tom's bed away for a couple of months, then represented it as Adi's bed. I think this helped deal with his feelings that I was taking things away from him. Some items of course were passed between them without worry, but the larger things defiantly were part of Tom. Tom can still be very attached to his possessions btw! I hope you guys are out making snow angels in the lovely clean snow! Today is glorious and sunny and a tolerable -6c! Ziv is outside chasing the dogs around for exercise, Tom is sleeping after his nightshift at Mcs and Adi is out - as usual! take care, wendy, in canada _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Hi , Summer has been doing great this past couple of weeks. She has really taken a big step forward in what she will wear. she is still really limited and now socks are wore inside out and pulled so they hang off her toes and don't touch skin but oh well. We are having alot of trouble with seatbelts again because she doesn't fit into the carseat with a winter coat and intensely dislikes the feel of the toothbrush in her mouth. Oh we went to the dietician who wants her to start on pediasure because of her food texture issues. My 4 yr old has grey hair! Anyways we got some home and she hates it! the dietician also wants me to take her off her multivitamin because that may be causing her tummy aches. Oh goodness now what will she get in the way of nutrition? Hugs teela _______________________________________________________
Guest guest
Teela: Just remember -- baby steps. Make sure the Pediasure is VERY cold. Summer might not mind it so much. You can always try Carnation Instant Breakfast -- it's a much cheaper alternative to Pediasure. Other things you can consider -- cream soups -- fortified with nonfat dried milk and/or an egg. Custards are loaded with eggs and milk -- protein. Smoothies made with milk and peanut butter -- all kinds of things. These are all tips from my home care nursing days -- we suggest them for people with poor appetite due to illness. Jule
Guest guest
Thanks Jule! Great tips! I am getting a blender for Christmas so I am going to try smoothies and fruit popsicles and I am going to try to add the pediasure to a bit of ice cream. I will try the carnation instant breakfst I am sure it tastes better! I am constantly looking for things to feed summer so your suggestions are great. Guest guest
Hi Judy Summer doesn't seem to have any lactose problems at all. thankfully! I was thinking maybe I could try the a multi without iron or go to the liquid infant drops. I am going to definately try the boost or canation instant breakfast. I used the strawberry in ice cream when I had my wisdom teeth out but was still nursing. She doesn't have any diarrhea she tends to be more constipated. Today we are baking oatmeal cookies together so maybe she will get some oatmeal that way! Lost the puppy under the fence. After my not so helpful back yard neighbor tells me he was laying under their bush for an hour (NOT! he was only gone 15 minutes max.) but isn't there when I get there. Would it have been too hard to walk around the fence or even yell over to tell me my puppy is loose? Must have been. Anyway, then whe comes back after I've got both boys in the car to go look for him-getting my 2 year old up from his nap. jumps in the back seat with (2 year old). I don't argue, mistake # 5. I tell them we'll go get ice cream since we are in the car already. As I " m waiting for a street light to turn green decides to open his door. Thank goodness we are stopped and in the right lane. Of course, he won't close it and thelight is now green and people are behind us. As I put the car in park to get out he closes it. ARGGGHHH!! Hopefully our days will get better. WEll, at least I'll get used to it. Karyn

I am wondering if there is a company that makes lawn chairs that might work for us. I think maybe beach chairs or something like that. I am an Achon. > Thanks > Teddy You mean, you don't wanna talk politics? You don't wanna to slag someone off? You don't wanna talk about biological functions in the bathroom????? You wanna talk about CHAIRS????????? O.K., sit yer bum down (no pun intended) and listen. What you want are the tubular metal chairs. We have been extremely successful with two types. First off ones which are more or less static in the garden, but man, are they comfortable. Take a tubular steel legged chair, take off the rubbers (shush) from the ends of the legs, get a hacksaw, cut all four legs down to make the seat a comfortable height for you. Slip the rubbers back on (shush!) and there you are! Dead simple and as I say, extremely comfortable! We were GIVEN eight of them when a day centre was getting new dining room stock. We love them! Second, ones you can put in the car and take with you. The collapsable ones! Again, tubular frame work but with cloth seat. Open the chair up, work out how much you want off the legs. These are different remember, because iin effect, the legs are a sort of flat bottomed 'U' shape. i.e. One flat bottomed 'U' forms the front two legs and another the back. ! ! <Chair legs before cutting ! ! ! ! ! ! !-----------------------! ! ! <Chair legs after cutting !----------------------! Again, work out how short you want the legs. This time though, of course, you are going to be hack sawing a chunk out of each leg. That chunk equals the length you want the leg shortening. Then you need some tubing which fits snug inside the leg. This is your joining piece, which you secure with a rivet gun after you have drilled the required holes. Slight problem with these chairs. They won't collapse properly if you make the shortened legs permanent. With ours, we found we had to leave the back legs loose (but, with the inner tubing fixed in place on the loose section). No problem. All that means is you have the back leg flat 'U' shape loose in the back of the car. You get to your destination, unfold the chair, slip the back leg piece into place, and again, believe me, you have a most comfortable seat JUST your size! I did this process with two of the folding chairs and again, they are brilliant! Enjoy your summer on comfortable, easy made to measure seats! Guest guest
I've been on vacation the whole month of July and now August. I'm currently in Boston!!! It's great weather and everything is so fun and exciting. I come often so tourist attractions aren't a big to-do anymore. We're going to the beach tomorrow - which is the only thing I really really love to do and look forward to each year!! We're also going shopping and having a blast! Today I went out with my Granny (she's 83 and in excellent condition). We went to a fabulous seafood restaurant and got to taste test a bunch of their seafood and other items on the menu. I'll return to NY this Saturday and then come back to Boston on the 13th to go to the aquarium and then spend the weekend here (oh yeah - I'm with my biological father and step mother). On the 16th of August, I'll fly out of Boston with my friend Brett to go to Germany for two weeks!!!!! I am SOOO excited! We have quite a few hours worth of layovers (both ways) in Milan, Italy and I do plan on going shopping out there! This summer is definitely a great one for traveling and vacationing for me. -Kendra

Guest guest
Hi Teddy, My husband and I are both LP's (achon and pseudo) about the same height. We have the Pottery Barn Kids line of furniture and it fits us well: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/sm400/index.cfm?pkey=cout%7Ck In place of the chairs, we have two benches on the sides and two arm chairs on each end. We've found also an average height patio set at Target that fits us pretty well. It took us a long time, but we eventually found it after trying out the floor models. Good luck! -Ellen
Guest guest
Teddy, Lin and I, both Achon, got hold of some tubular steel chairs with cushioned backs and seats, which were being thrown out by one of the Old Folks homes. All we did was take the rubber feet off the legs, use a hacksaw to cut them down, put the rubbers back on, and BINGO! Free, VERY comfortable seats! They even had the gap at the back for our bums ! VERY rare in a chair. Fred Summer Hey Everybody I need your help. I am looking for outdoor furniture, chairs for me . I am an Achon. Your help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have been hiding in the background for awhile. I have been enjoying the summer with the kids. I went back to work in March. I am a real estate agent and that has been keeping me busy this summer also. My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniverary this last week. We spent the day in Chicago yesterday. We had an amazing time. We live so close to such a beautiful city and we don't get to enjoy it as much as we like. I had my Dr. appointment today. My counts are low. rbc holding steady around 10.7. But my wbc has dipped a little. 2.7. My Dr. is doing some research to see what is causing this but she does assume it is the Gleevec. I think she is thinking of switching to another med. We will see what she says when she calls next week. I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy summer.
