Guest guest
Hi Amy, Re: the meds, my daughter's pediatrician recommended Zoloft right away when she started at 7yo. She felt it worked the best for her other patients. Also, and I can't recall if this came from her or if I read it somewhere, but I remember something about it seems to be a better choice for girls vs. boys. That makes no sense to me, but I do recall hearing it! BTW, it has been a miracle drug for my daughter, especially in the past 6 months. Best of luck! nna NY > > Hi All, > I wanted to first say a HUGE thank you for this group. It is so nice > to know others are living through the same things we are, I have felt > very alone in this. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I will second what nna said. Zoloft has been a tremendous help for my dd(now 11). She has been on it since she was 5. My psychiatrist prescribed it for my son at age 4 because he was having severe issues and he became manic on it. Hugs Judy
Guest guest
Welcome, Amy. Our son needed meds so he COULD do the therapy. His OCD and anxiety were so out of control that he couldn't think to function. Once he was on meds and things quieted down a bit, he was better able to focus on doing the therapy. Did your therapist say why she thought Lucy only needed 6 more appointments? Also, why isn't Lucy ready for CBT and ERP? My understanding is that it works great on young kids. In fact, I wish I had found someone when our son was younger and some of this stuff hadn't become so ingrained. Anyway, I'm with you. I'm thinking the therapy should continue after starting the meds. Or did I understand it wrong. . Are you just taking a break while you wait for the meds to start working? Can't really say on the meds. We've only ever used Celexa. But, some in here have used the ones you asked about, so hopefully they can contribute info on them. Again, welcome. Glad you are here. Guest guest
Don't be too concerned about a therapist who has a finite idea of therapy. I think there is too much " infinite " therapy out there-- talk therapy that goes nowhere. CBT (we went for only a few months) was very successful with our son, who at the time was presenting emotophobia (fear of vomiting). Medication in combo with CBT worked very well. You are on the right track. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and at many places along the way. > > Hi All, > I wanted to first say a HUGE thank you for this group.
