Guest guest
Hi, when I was on SKI, they saw some fluid around my lung and my pulmonologist wanted to a thorocentesis, but was afraid to because of my taking a trial drug, didn't know what was in it, so I told him to call MDACC. I guess that intimidated him, too, so he didn't call and I was taken off the drug, so it wasn't necessary. I have heard that is was painful by some and painless by others, so I think it is a relative thing, same as the BMA. Some say they find it is so painful they have to take versed. I saw my nephrologist this week and he asked me if the BMA's hurt. We both laughed about it after he told me when he was an intern, he had to do them to people with HIV. He said some were so fragile, he knocked them out with valium and something else, but it wasn't versed, or I would have remembered that. We need to learn as much as we can from our fellows, just as we do in our group, because we have to sit there and eyeball that doctor and tell him everything that is happening and we know we aren't making it up or imagining it. I hate it when a doctor tells a patient it's all in his head. Do they think we belong in a psycho ward? As for the enlarged heart, it could be heredity. My grandfather had one, my parents both had one and I have one. My doctor said it also has a lot to do with all the drugs I have taken, it makes my heart work harder. I'm not a professional, so I accept that explanation. Carpe Diem, Lottie Duthu
