Do not let people tell you that your liver can't hurt. While it does not have nerve endings to transfer pain, the material surrounding it does. If you've been on ANY medication that might affect your liver, you should have it checked ASAP. If not, have it checked the next time you're at the doc's office. Guest guest
Mike, I've been on enbrel for 6 years and have had no pain like you describe. Enbrel isn't supposed to damage the liver, so I doubt it could be the cause. I hope you have called your doctor. a On Apr 9, 2005, at 10:23 PM, mike nelson wrote: > i've been having right side pain for about 2 weeks now. i was > wondering if anybody who has been on enbrel has ever experianced > this. wondering if it could be liver problems. getting worried about > it. thank you mike >

Since I already have liver problems, he specifically checked it out. Anything you take into your body is either processed by your liver or your kidneys. Guest guest
There has been a few cases, I believe 7, of spontaneous liver failure associated with TNF inhibitors, so it's always best to see a doctor if anything suspicious is going on. My rheumy told me that they don't routinely do liver screening with Enbrel since hepatotoxicity is so rare. Maybe they should even if it is rare. Any med can cause a side effect, even an unlisted one, since we are all different. a On Apr 11, 2005, at 2:20 PM, Nina wrote: > > > What my rheumy told me is that it isn't as hard on the liver. But I'm finding with a lot of drugs they don't even test to see what it does to the liver. I wrote the company that makes Evoxac (for Sjogren's) and asked them how it affects the liver and they had never tested it for that! My rheumy (assuming I ever get the Enbrel) plans to test mine every six weeks. Nina

Guest guest
I should be surprised that it got FDA approval without liver testing, but I'm really not. Guest guest
I'm on Enbrel, and my rheumy has me get a CBC and either a Liver Profile or Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, which includes liver enzymes, every three months. Since I'm an hour away from him, he lets me go to my GP for the bloodwork, and they fax the results to him. Guest guest
Hi Lori and all, I too have off and on side pain on the left side under my ribs. Although I fear it is my spleen, it may be my stomach because I have found that it responds well if before I eat I have a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon. Check it out. Guest guest
Hi Bobby, Your spleen in on your left side. When was the last time you had it checked? Guest guest
Hi Bobby, i too have this pain in my left side going around sometimes to my back, it's the same as yours not there when i lay down only when i walk around and when i breathe it has lasted about a month where it was there all the time and now it's here and there. I went to the Dr. 2 times cause i thought i had something terrible he wanted to make sure it wasn't my spleen so i had a cat scan of my chest and abdomen which took care of my spleen, liver, pancreas and everything else that is in there. Nothing showed up which is good but i still don't know what the problem is, next week i am having an endoscopy to see if something there is causing it like reflux or whatever they look for in your stomach, maybe inflamation i don't know but it maybe something to do with the Gleevec {400} because i have alot of gastric problems with it. If they come up with something i will let you know. Take care, Esther > > Hi everyone, anyone know about a pain in the left side? low, not there if I lie down, only if I breathe deep, or walk around. Guest guest
> > Right on, I am thinking of ignoring it, maybe it will just go away on it's own. Bobby __________________________ Hi Bobby, I am on a different drug (Tasigna x 9 mo) but have had several odd episodes of left side pain that last about 2 days. I was concerned it might be from the pancreas, which can be affected by Tasigna.......but then it was more likely in the small intestine. I noticed it when I felt a little constipated. Try eating more fiber if you do not get alot.....use ground flax seed or whatever you prefer, and that might help. The reason it hurts more when you take a deep breath, is that your diaphragm moves downward and puts more pressure on everything below it. My alternative chiro thought that it was probably just a little toxins (from our drug) irritating the small intestine. Always better to move stuff through your GI system more quickly. C.
