Guest guest
Yes, appleseeds do contain a small amount of poison, but it is not arsenic. I was mistaken, I also thought it was arsenic, but a quick check proved me wrong, too, its cyanide found in other pits as well. We used to crack them open with hammers and eat them like almonds, in fact, they rather tasted like almonds. That is what happens when you don't have electronic toys to play with and have nothing better to do. LOL I don't know how animals could get those shells open with their teeth, we had to pry them open like an oyster, but I am still here. LOL ___________ " In fact, if you eat enough apple seeds or cherry pits, you could die. Apple seeds contain cyanogenic acids. Cherry pits, and seeds from related fruits, including peaches, plums, almonds, pears, and apricots, contain cyanogenic glycosides. Your body can detoxify small quantities of cyanide compounds. If you accidentally eat a cherry pit in a pie or swallow an apple seed or two, you'll be fine. Actually, if you swallow several seeds whole, you would absorb a minimal amount of the toxic compounds. Chewing the seeds makes them much more hazardous to your health. Children and pets are much more likely to suffer poisoning from eating the seeds than adults. And it would only be important if you were juicing maybe a bushel of apples. Cyanide is rat poison, right?
