Guest guest
Hi Connie, I know just a little about Namenda. We went to the OCD conference this past summer and we spoke with one of the doctors about this. It is an Alzheimer's medication, but another, newer use for it, is for OCD. Your doctor must be very up on OCD! If you choose to use it, please let us all know if it works! Good luck! Ellen
Guest guest
Hi Ellen, Thanks for replying. I would like to go to the OCD conference this summer; sounds like it would be helpful and is pretty informative. We are new to this. Our son (17 yrs) was just diagnosed in November. He started having anxiety right at the beginning of the school year. It took a few months to realize most of his anxiety is due to OCD. He possibly also has generalized anxiety disorder (that was the first diagnosis from the psychiatrist). He has contamination obesessions; both with germs and contamination from food. He has been on Lexapro for about 9 weeks now. He just started with the Namenda a week ago. He is on a real low dose to start. The dosage will be increased each week for 4 weeks. So, by the 4th week, he will be on the max dosage. I'll let you know if we see any improvement. Not sure how long it should take. He is also doing CBT. That has just started. He's had 3 sessions so far. We are very hopeful about the CBT. I've heard a lot of good things about it. We really like his therapist; and more importantly, he likes her and is comfortable talking to her. Connie
Guest guest
Connie, It sounds like you are off to a great start with your son. I bet all that you are doing will surely pay off. It sounds like he is receptive to doing the CBT/ERP. There are some kids who avoid it.... I am really curious about the Namenda. We enjoyed the conference a lot. We have gone for 2 years. Next summer it is in Boston. It is very informative and it is great for the kids to meet each other and parents too. My daughter loves it!!! Please keep us posted.
