Guest guest
My dear Leah, I am so glad that you chose to bring this up for discussion. While medicinal herbs can be useful, people forget how powerful they really are. I went to the website listed below and found this very useful information which was posted as a warning, but also what it is used for, which means we should pay attention at the same time, lest we do more harm than good. Your immune system may become over stimulated and then suppressed if you take Echinacea for a long time. DO NOT use Echinacea longer than 8 weeks. Some experts say that 10 to 14 days is probably too long. Call your doctor if Goldenseal gives you mouth sores, depression, lack of sleep, slow breathing, reduced mental alertness, numbness, prickling, or tingling in the arms and legs, paralysis(with high doses), seizures, skin inflammation, slow pulse, stomach cramping and pain, vomiting. Echinacea and Goldenseal can be used together to treat urinary tract infections. Echinacea stimulates the immune system to help the body fight the infection, and goldenseal has long been used in treating bladder infections and is especially helpful because of its ability to kill the E coli bacteria. Take one-half to 1 teaspoon of echinacea-goldenseal liquid extract or 3 to 4 capsules every two waking hours for up to 10 days. If symptoms do not improve within a couple of days, consult your doctor. If your symptoms include low- to mid-back pain, fever, or blood in the urine, do not attempt self-treatment. See your doctor right away to rule out a kidney infection, which can cause serious damage to the kidneys. 2.. Echinacea and Goldenseal can be used for treating candidacies. Echinacea bolsters the immune system and can help to restore immune function. Goldenseal has direct anti fungal activity and has been proven to be effective at killing the Candida organism.
