Guest guest
Hi: I am full of Arthritis in every joint of my body. I know I need some knee surgery, but like you I am afraid to do it. My husband just had his done this past April, and he is like a new person with his leg. He had Total Knee Replacement after arthroscopic surgery years ago, and living on pain meds all the time. He got through his just fine. No infections or problems. He did 4months of phycial therapy at 3 times a week to get his leg working good as new. He went back to work in Sept., and he does say he feels like he gets some heat in the knee which is probably inflammation. He was told to just ice it up, but he is on his feet for 9 hours every shift at work. He says its the physical therapy that got him back on his legs again.   Talk to your Oncologist, but I think the biggest thing is getting the right doctor to do the surgery also. Good Luck in your Decision. I am holding off as long as I can. Date: Sunday, November 14, 2010, 5:35 PM  Dear Group ~ Has anyone ever had knee replacement surgery after being diagnosed with CML? If so, did you have any complications or infections while recovering? I have had physical therapy, cortisone injections, and even synovial fluid injections. During my last visit to my orthopedic doctor, he said that it was time for me to consider surgery. Of course, I will be checking with my CML specialist to see if this is even a possibility for me. I would appreciate anyone's comments on this subject. Phyllis dx 2003 800mg Gleevec PCRU #605 in Zavie's Zero Club
Guest guest
There are different things to explore before getting a knee replacement. Channel 2 New York reported a knee brace called Oactive from BoniCare which was reported to prevent knee surgery. It is for people with arthritis in the knee. It has support and electrical stimulation. You can go to CBSNewYork.com to read the article or call the company at 1-800-452-7993. I know of 2 people that are going to get it. It is covered by insurance. I need a knee replacement, but am doing alot of pain management activities to avoid the surgery. My daughter has CML. I am somewhat of a caretaker and can't take the time for surgery. Sandi > > Dear Group ~ Has anyone ever had knee replacement surgery after being diagnosed with CML? Guest guest
I have been using this knee brace for the last two month and it is so helpfull I even used it during exercising. My health insurance paid for it as my orthopedic ordered. I am highly recommending it. Guest guest
Hi All, T wrote on that she has been using a brace that has helped. T, is this the bioni brace that I posted about? I have been considering getting one . My surgeon feels that it doesn't work, but he is interested in replacing the knee. I can get a rx from another orthopedic doctor who is conservative or my internist. Sandi > > > > Dear Group ~ Has anyone ever had knee replacement surgery after being diagnosed with CML? Guest guest
Well as a matter of fact, that is how Granny found out she had CML. She was about to have a prior knee replacement replaced and her surgeon came back and said something is not right with your blood. She was then diagnosed with CML and from there they sent her to a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon. She had the surgery and did fine. Of course all of the doctors were in contact with each other before anything was done. [ ] Has anyone have knee replacement surgery after being diagnosed with CML?
