I had a colonoscopy a few months ago. My primary care doc was really on my case about having delayed so long (I'm 72). The final day of prep was uncomfortable, and I spent perhaps five hours mostly in the bathroom drinking the liquid that really cleans you out after a day of fasting.

I was mildly sedated during the procedure and felt nothing. The fasting was actually a pleasant experience. I took all my meds but no vitamins or supplements for two days, and could only have water.

Fortunately my exam was completely negative. This was a great relief. But it could have been other, and intestinal growths and cancer don't manifest themselves in the way we feel until it is way too late.

So, I concur with all the folks who are urging everyone who is due for a screening to get one.

I had a colonoscopy two years ago and had a large polop the size of a baseball...then a second one, one month later to make sure all was removed..then I had one here a Duke in an out patient office last year which was clean; and don't have to have one for 3 years from now.

The prep is nothing..its good to fast anyway and you feel nothing.

Do this test, your insurance pays for it and its done..

Man up guys and gals..

Just wanted to add another thing to be aware of if you get a colonoscopy! My sister had gone in for a

colonoscopy last year, at age 64, she'd had them done once or twice before. She was in perfect

health when she was put under a mild anesthesia. After the procedure was done and she was coming

back to consciousness she suddenly had pains in her chest and could barely speak. 911 was called

and while in back of ambulance the EMT was questioning her and telling that the anesthesia used on

her was propofil (same stuff that did in!) and she they had been to that same Dr's

office a few other times for people having same symptoms as herself.

So the EMT advised her she was probably allergic to it and to avoid it in the future! Fortunately

she had no heart problems but she did lose her voice for an entire week! Strange! I have

never had this procedure done but I have been under anesthesia twice in last two years

with no issues, though I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa based drugs. So I am not sure

how one knows if they would have a allergice reaction to any kind of anesthesia but I thought

I'd throw that situation out there to see if it's happened to others or to talk with your Dr.

about it.

Have a great Friday and weekend all!
