Hi Dina,

My daughter, now 19, started with debilitating fear of vomiting -

starting at age 6 or so.

She continued to eat, but limited food and developed rituals around food.

ie. pouring milk, one drop, then the rest also, could never accept any

gestures that went from the feet upward (ie. the direction of vomiting..)

She had only vomited once.. it was the fear, not the experience...

(at one point, I bought her a small stone carved bear, one of the indian

totem symbols, with an arrow that pointed in. I tried so many things..

she was not medicated until 17. She is okay now ; in college, but still

struggling.(currently switching from lexapro to zoloft)

best,

Alice

Hi Dina,

thank you for your kind wishes; it is very helpful to have a deeper and

better understanding of my child, even now. My daughter called today

because it is the first three days of classes and there are changes and

she is, of course, anxious.

I think there is much work to be done within her and between us to

understand what is ocd and what is not.

this semester she has bio chem AND microbiology.. very intimidating

for her. She makes use of the disability services center, but they are

making her take a public speaking class. (something that was expressly

considered wrong in her 504 plan) *sigh* it's a never ending job of

advocacy and connection and understanding...
