Hi ,

I feel for you and I understand what you are going through. My

daughter starting going downhill in 6th grade, only to get worse in

7th and 8th. Now better in 9th. In school, there was always an

aide in the academic classes available for her, as well as some

others. But by seventh grade, she basically had one available all

the time. She was pulled out of classes because she couldn't write

also. Lots of one on one, sometimes more successful than other

times. We had a tutor at home also. It was so exhausting for all of

us because sometimes, even with all the help, she couldn't get work

done. There were so many accomodations made at school. She had

trouble with writing, washing too much and even walking. The aide

went with her on her school's Washington, DC trip. It wasn't

embarrassing because my daughter didn't know that she went only to

watch over her. As far as the aide in school,it was a relief. My

daughter's words are, " Isn't it nice that they help me so much! " Over

time, she came to know that she needed the help and couldn't do the

work without help. We emphasize how lucky she is to live in a time

when help is available. My husband has ADD and when he was young he

got no help at all. My daughter also has ADD and TS, now. (so

getting her the aide was no problem at all) In middle school, the

aide took care of all her books, because if she did, she would hide

the ones in remote places around the school - the homework that she

didn't want to do. They made it as stress-free as possible.

However, it was hard in middle school because the curriculum was so

set. In high school now, there is so much more flexibility. My

daughter wants to be very social, so for her, keeping her in the

school was a good thing. I guess she suffered in silence. We tried

a class at a special school last summer.....she didn't like it much.

She prefers to try to fit in with her regular peers. I hope that you

can find something that works well for your son! It is so hard!!!

Hope this helps a little. Ellen
