Dearest Advocates:

Advocacy in action. I have some fantastic news: Remember HB 549 that allowed therapy services for children with disabilities to be easier to get and require less burdensome prior authorization process?

The House today overrode Governor Perdue's veto back in May 2007 on the bill (First day of legislative session!!!). Now it needs to be overridden in the Senate too.

Please contact your State Senator (go to www.vote-smart.org if you don't know who your Senator is and put in your 9 digit zip code - look at your junk mail if you don't know the last 4 digits).

Please contact your State Senator for your area and let them know how important HB 549 is to your family and you want their support. Phone calls are best but if you can only send an e-mail, that's great too!

Let's have our voices heard for our children and the providers that service them!

UNITED- WE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Sincerely,

Heidi J.

Below is a partial article from Tom Crawford (Capitol Impact) down at the Georgia State Capitol today!

Subject: House overrides vetos

By Tom Crawford on 1/14/2008

The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to override Gov. Sonny Perdue's vetoes of 12 bills, getting the 2008 session of the General Assembly off to a roaring start.

The series of override votes by House members, most of which were supported by more than 150 of the 180 members, was a direct repudiation of the governor and a sign that he may be reaching lame duck status more quickly than usual in his last term as the state's chief executive.

The vetoes involved these bills:

HB 549, relating to occupational speech and physical therapy services for children with disabilities. Passed both chambers unanimously. Vote to override: 161-12.
