Hi Kath. I am currently using a chinese medicine doctor who also has

a degree in nutrition, she has recommended a specific remedy that is

indivualized for my son. Unfortunately his ocd tells him not to take

it, but when he does I find he is calmer. Personally, she has helped

me to survive this disorder!

In the past I have consulted naturopaths, who I feel are well

educated, just costly. Mostly read and researched a lot on my own,

30+ years. I do inform my sons psych as to what vitamins and

alternative remedies he is taking.

You can often find good alternative people at or through health food

stores. A book I find very good is, Prescriptions for Nutritional

Healing. Another book is The Brain Diet, Alan Logan, ND, who is a

faculty member of the Harvard Medical School's Mind-Body institute;

this has very good info re supplements and vitamins and research on

such.

Omega 3 is definitely a good supplement for brain stuff and mood. In

the Brain Diet book it reports that " case studies and animal research

suggests they can dampen anxiety/phobic behavior " . I give our son

Sea Essence brand, 2300mg per capsule, big and expensive, but my son

will ony take one so we wanted the highest dose. The B vitamins

also, B3 and B6 in particular for anxiety, but need to take all B's

not just isolate.

Good luck in your search. If only there were more medical doctors

who combined traditional and alternative methods...

Thanks Barb, I am going to look into naturopaths who may be in my area! We

did try Omega-3 fish oil liquid. It didn't do anything for her attention

issues or hyperactivity. I'm thinking I may not have used enough?? The

directions

said 1/2 teaspoon daily. I may have to try an increase or try it longer than

the month that we did? Thanks, Kath
