Guest guest
Dear Ruth, I looked in my little " Guiness " book of 10-yr. survivors and you were listed. I see you are the age now that I was when I was diagosed. I thought my life then had come to a screeching halt. There was nowhere to go but the old pamphets in the doctors office that no one seemed to take home. LLS wanted me to be an Ambassador, which meant I would have to be in touch with the doctors and check to see if they had current material for their patients. A fancy name for a go-fer. LOL I saw a letter in Abbey's column about the Block Foundation. It was a compelling read and he said his doctor told him any cancer could be cured if they were willing to work with the doctors. I think he meant if it was caught early enough, but his doctor initially told him to go home and get his papers in order, he had 3 weeks or 3 months to live. He went to another doctor for a second opinion and he told him to sell his tax business to his brother and devote the rest of his life to helping others fight cancer. I'm happy to say he did not die of cancer, but he gave me my first glimmer of hope and it wasn't even about CML. I found out years later that his doctor was at MDACC, where I go. Then a friend who was a nurse gave me Bernie Segal's book and I was really energized after reading his book. I think there is someone in this group named who goes to his support group. If this is so, please reply, . Let us know how you are doing and also about Bernie and what he is doing with his life. Carpe Diem, Lottie Duthu
