Guest guest
Sharon, I never liked the baby carrots, either, or wanted to pay the price they charged, but my daughter in law who was a wonderful mother used to give them to her children as well. If I remember, she also brought them to our family parties. I showed them to my husband in the store today, and they had little white spots starting to come out of them. Once a vegetable or fruit is peeled you have to consume it, you cannot preserve it. I looked at all those fine bananas to juice and that's a no no for me. I did buy some zucchini and some big fat grapes and more carrots. Can you use cabbage? We tried that it just balled up and wouldn't go through. I see that some celery has been recalled, it has a bacteria in it that is killing children, so I didn't buy celery today. I forgot to buy a fresh pineapple, but I think I can used the canned one. You have gotten me to drink some every day. Whoo hoo! This is for Vicky, I made a shrimp/crab/okra gumbo today. Goes well with potato salad and a big bowl of Jello with whipped cream. Did you do yours yet? I am so jealous that you can get those delicious crabs. Have a good weekend everybody, Lottie Duthu

I do not think they are very sweet or taste very good. Now I know why!!! Thanks for the info. Sharon [ ] Baby Carrots Think those baby carrots are healthy. Think again after you read this. Thanks to Ceil for bringing this to our attention: The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc. The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots - most people probably know this already. What you may not know and should know is the following: Once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine used in your pool). Since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine. snopes.com: Baby Carrots .... Guest guest
Will had posted about this a couple years ago...I guess I can't prove if it is or isn't without doing some digging, but I avoid baby carrots anyway. A chemical bath would explain why baby carrots always look fresh, moist, and bright despite sitting on the shelf for who-knows-how-long! Guest guest
What about the " baby carrots " that are labeled organic? Are they grown organically, and then exposed to the chlorine? Just curious.... Anita
