Guest guest
Many of you have gotten to know me and know that I am not shy about speaking my mind. You also know that I believe in a healthy debate and therefore believe that everyone has the right and responsibility to voice their opinions. We all know there are two sides to every issue, " my side and the wrong side! " OK, lighten up, that was a joke. We all have opinions and love to share them. I just wish we could all share them in love, and not just when we agree with one another. The recent exchanges of messages on this subject was disturbing. It was not the subject or the opinions, however, that disturbed me the most. It was the level of vitriol that was being expressed. I'm sure that books could be, many have been, written on the loss of civility in our society today. Nowhere is that loss more evident than in our debates. It is not wrong to have strong opinions and the emotions which accompany them. It is wrong, in my opinion, to make debates more about the personalities of those debating than the issues at stake. Personally, I can make a strong case for both sides of this issue. Each side has merits and flaws. It would be helpful to speak to those for the edification of all. Hateful and hurtful statements have no place in this debate. I suggest that everyone take care in what and how they say the things they do. Christian, Jewish and secular ethicists would advise us all to " be slow to take offense and quick to forgive. " (I am not including Islamic or others here because I just don't know enough about them to put words to their teachings.) With love for all, Troxel
