An article in the San Francico Chronicle said the race is in its seventh year and has raised more than $100 million dollars for leukemia and lymphoma research. The article also included the following information: ---------------------------- Thanks in part to research grants from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the primary recipient of marathon funds, outlooks have improved dramatically for those with blood cancer, society spokeswoman Liz Olsen said. Forty years ago, very few children survived leukemia, but now 85 percent live five years or more after diagnosis. Chronic myelogenous leukemia, which once had a survival rate of three years, is now essentially cured, she said. " Do you think an organization that views a disease as " essentially cured " will contribute funds toward research in that disease? Other thoughts?
