Guest guest
Dear Ted, Your point is well taken, but so do the other positions have merit. We don't wish to take anything away from what happened to those people on 9/11. It was horrific for the whole country/world. I was merely making a point that some of the rich and famous were able to raise so much for 9/11; we should have a counterpart doing the same for cancer research. I mentioned in a prior post how much Stand Up 4 Cancer took in (much less). What do we have here, over 200 kinds of cancer, so all of the funds raised is not enough, we need more from congress. Education and healthcare are always the first on the chopping block. BTW, Could you explain what you meant by " Carry on " ? How much is for new drugs and how much are they actively doing research for a cure? If anyone has those figures, please come forth. Maybe Virginia or Dorothy would have that, they are crusaders. I know Dorothy Emery has appeared before congress to ask for more money for research, but she can tell you more about that. I do know some people are private about their illness, but something as severe as cancer is not something you can keep to yourself forever. It's a like being a little bit pregnant. Sooner or later someone will see you at an oncology office and from there its history. It's where people's priorities are and mine is CML. Jerry raises millions every year for MD and he is certainly to be commended for that. He lends his name to the project and personally oversees it and makes the right contacts. They, too claim they are right on the edge of finding a cure. I don't do research for MD, so I don't know what their figures and data are concerning a cure. My focus presently is getting a drug I respond to while waiting for a " cure " , and there are many in the same boat, up a creek without a paddle. We keep waiting for our turn to find a drug that is tailor made for us. We are waiting for those designer drugs we keep reading and talking about, still on the outside looking in. The bottom line is how much is actually going for research has a lot of people left in the dark. You can find a few facts and figures and requests to write to congress for more money at the LLS blog if anyone is interested: http://community.lls.org/blogs/lls/tags/cancer_research _______________________ LLS on the East Coast The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) groundbreaking charity sports training program, has reached a remarkable milestone of raising $1 billion to support blood cancer research and patient services. cancer. In 2009, the Walk raised more than $39 million for research and patient services. Participants walk along a two to three mile route in their communities. Those who raise $100 or more are called Champions for Cures, and carry lighted balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold balloons in memory of loved ones lost.
