Interesting. I don't know about you guys, but I have a molecular test on my blood every three months. It's almost as good as a bone marrow biopsy and who want to have too many of them? I wonder if it's widely practiced (molecular testing) or if I'm just lucky because my hospital is attached to the research centre in Liverpool, where they send my blood. Australia Cmlers in Australia have the same procedure. Every 3 months we have molecular testing to find our %. The system is very beauracratic and if your specialist cannot prove that your front line medication is working, then the government will pay for it. Every 3 months - CML blood cancer clients have all our blood testing, not just molecular but all bloods tested free from Medicare. If the government did not pay for these, the costing of bloods would be so expensive that only the very wealthy would be able to have bloods done. We also have a great system for Blood Banks - where people deposit bloods, by donating their blood and people who need bloods for transfusions etc do not have to pay. Goodness what the price of blood products would be. Australia compared to other parts of the world have a very good system but like all systems can be improved. Guest guest
Hello Sue in Australia, Your system sounds similar to ours. And thank God for the blood transfusion service! I was a regular blood donor before the lurgy struck and it saved my life. I gave a unit of blood on a Thursday (feeling like a ton of manure, I have to say) and on Monday morning, the phone was ringing its backside off. It was a doctor from the blood transfusion service, advising me to see my GP because my white cell count was a bit high. A bit high? By the end of the week when I was dragged under protest into hospital, it was 400. I could have pegged out. If I hadn't given blood... so how lucky was I? Sometimes I think our guardian angels step in to engineer things so they work out OK. I didn't feel like giving blood, I felt tired and achy, but my partner said I should go as we'd missed a couple of sessions. It was clearly the right thing to do and fate that I went when I did! So every cloud has a silver lining is what I say. Shelagh > > Shelagh asked the question of processes in other Countries. > > Interesting.
