Well, sexual issues have been a common topic on the list. We've had some on

religion not sure about politics. The main thing is not to post chain

emails/forwards and not to repost the same statement with new words over and

over

and over. It's not that you can never post Off Topic post it's just that you

shouldn't overwhelm or crowd the list with them. Like a post once a month to

bring up an off topic is okay. It's also good to put " OT " in the subject line.

The trouble we have had is when an off topic lingers for two or more weeks.

Especially when only two or three members are posting several emails on the OT

subject. Thus, annoying many other members. A good rule might be to start an

OT on the list then after a week or two invite any members who wish to

continues the discussion to email you directly or go in a chat room/IM. That

way

the OT stimulates the list but doesn't wear out it's welcome.

Example: Day 1 - Post a message about baseball fans, Day 2-4 - Four members

send posts about their favorite team/players, Day 5 - Post a message " Hey, any

members wanting to talk sport enter the chat room Monday night at 7pm "

Hi Everyone, lately we have had some very tough subjects, very interesting,

but also very controversial. Most of us were most likely told don't ever

discuss religion or politics at a party. How true, it usually starts an

argument. But we are not at a party, we are just a group of people with a

life threatening disease and some of these topics are of great importance to

us. I for one want to hear why someone is against or for health care,

breast feeding, stem cell research and many other topics. What I hear

might change my mind and make me see some thing in a different light. My

buddy Lottie and I are old, sorry about that Lottie, but we are....and

things that go on today were never in existence when we were young. Put a

man on the moon? get outta here! Make a baby in a dish? what idiot would

ever believe that one? Save a life with an umbilical cord? Now you're

really bananas!! We have seen a lot happen since we were born, way back in

the '20's, some good, some not so good. But I like to keep an open mind

about most things, and I really appreciate these topics that keep us on our

toes and I hope nobody gets their nose out of joint or gets in a snit over

them. Just my two cents worth, Bobby
