Guest guest
Hi Beth I had found those same exact molds at a few different sites. I hadn't gone to eBay, though. The mold at Horton Supply's ebay site says they'll be closing their ebay store soon (no date given). I am waiting for a reply from Brambleberry I sent them last night regarding the " baby feet " mold. I wanted to know if the feet are indented enough in the mold to actually pour the colored soap in when you do two colors. It's hard to tell if it's poured colored soap in the feet or if its been painted on a solid colored soap afterwards. I don't want to do the " paint " thing. I hope they answer soon. The ebay price is $.70 cheaper and they at least tell you the s/h charge which other sites don't so that helps, too. Guest guest
Beth Yup, I have a fabric softener cup. I never used softener because I heard it makes your clothes wear out faster because it breaks down the fibers. I guess I'll try the vinegar trick. Re: Vinegar , I put my vinegar in the cup for fabric softener. Do you have one of those? Mine also has a pause button if I need to open the door, so it will open at various times during the wash cycle. Can you do that? Would a fabric softener dispenser ball work in your washer? I have a Whirlpool frontloader, but haven't tried a ball since I have the dispenser cup on top. Guest guest
I would hope a good rheumatologist could diagnosis it, as Dr. Lehman referred to it as a " different type of " rheumatalogical disease. I checked an article on Mayo Clinic site and it says a blood test can determine the presence of a specific antibody (U1-RNP) that indicates mixed connective tissue disease. Do you think this is something you can talk to her ped about? Perhaps after the conference it might be time to find another rheumatologist? I wish I had some answers...I thought of Hannah when I saw you said she was RH+ and remembered that article, but I don't know any more than what I have read. How are you and Hannah feeling? Looking forward to meeting you and your family in a few weeks!  From: Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@...> Subject: NANCY Date: Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 6:00 PM " Beth - haven't you wondered if perhaps Hannah has a mixed connective tissue disease? And that is still not to say Hannah doesn't have jra. " Yes, I have wondered this on numerous occasions. This would explain a lot of her symtoms and can go along with hypermobility. Who diagnoses this? Our former rheumy only seemed interested in testing for JRA, Lupus & Limes disease. She never explored any other possibility, just would explain everything away like it was no big deal. How do they diagnose MCTD? Guest guest
RIGHT ON Debby.  we ALL need to have this kind of mentality a lot more than anything else. I feel the same way. I stopped being bitter about this diet a while ago. What is the point of keep telling myself how horrible this diet is & all the negative aspect of it. In reality there is really not much negative about it except not being able to eat sweet things &  a lot of useless carbs. Those foods are not really good for you after all. I am looking at the positives of this diet & exactly as you wrote i can eat as much as i want & I do but i do not gain any fat . I am also looking around more closely & the ones who are eating supposedly all the delicious foods like ice cream, cakes or pasta have so much fat on them & i do not . i used to have a little tummy but not any more & it is because of this diet that my body looks a lot better than even in my 20's. I never thought i will ever see my abdominal muscles. now i have started seeing them. the hell with sugar, sweets & pasta or bread. The only minus is not to be able to eat fruits & at some point i am sure i can have the " safe " ones & I will be very happy. This is all coming from someone who was a major addict to sweets & contrary to what i thought at the very beginning of this diet how depressed i will be not to be able to eat any more sweets i am actually grateful that i have no choice other than not to eat them any more. It will be very helpful to us all if we ONLY share what we are eating if it falls into MOVES diet rather than non MOVES foods.  Shar From: Debby Padilla-Hudson <debbypadilla@...> Subject: Re: BETH >For me it's the opposite.. no matter how much eating this way sucks, the stuff I deal with when I go off plan are much worse. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I have meant to e-mail you - I am pretty sure I even have one started in my drafts... Anyway, is still having her ups and downs. She saw the rheumatologist about two weeks ago and she added Arava to her Enbrel, since mtx gives her the cellulitis due to her pidd. She has referred her to a hand surgeon as both pointer fingers continue to deviate (oddly - from the middle joint out, then back sideways towards the next finger so her finger resembles a boomerang. Two OT's and the rheumy cannot figure out what to do to slow the progression as to splint this deviation prevents all mobility of the fingers. She has had four rounds (3 months) of various antibiotics for sinus infections but CT scan shows she still has infection so will consult with ENT after Christmas. She saw a new allergist she sees again in two weeks who thinks all her hives and rashes may be caused by Celebrex and anti-inflammatories in general. The appointments (and Jayden) keep us very busy. I am glad to hear Hannah has had no more fainting episodes; there are so many factors that can contribute....if she had taken her Tramadol (but as you say doesn't take it often), and was tired, or had not eaten recently, stood up too quickly, wasn't feeling well (e.g. she did feel a need to take the Tramadol), etc. Hopefully it was a one time deal, and fortunately she did not hit her head, as you said. I know it is scary, especially when they are not a fainter and you have no warning (e.g. has classically low b.p. so it isn't a stretch for her). I am glad she is still able to perform and hope the holiday programs don't take too much out of her! (Have you tried sending the energy bars with her?) How have you been with your arthritis? I would imagine the weather getting so cold there is difficult! How are the boys? Thank you for the suggestion for the VAS as I would always go with a personal recommendation. Do you know if you can purchase it from Amazon? Please give Hannah a hug. From: Ruth <telemwill (DOT) com> Subject: Scleroderma ? @group s.com Date: Tuesday, December 9, 2008, 7:57 AM Jemma had an appointment this morning. I wish I may I wish I might know the answer that will be right! Last May, after a few days of horrible pain stopping me in my tracks.....for me that means I could'nt go shopping or when I did I had to cut the trip short, I called my?-at that time-?ortho surgeon. After looking at my hip xrays it was decided my 16 year old hip replacements needed some revision. The left, which he said was worse, would go first and surgery was scheduled for June 19th. As many of you know that didn't come to be. I went to the hospital that morning. The anesthesia team came in the room to talk with me of their plans. After seeing my limited neck movement and mouth opening they seemed a bit bewildered and honestly put?alot of?fear in me. The attempt to intubate was made, but failed with poor results for me. Short of death, I was admitted to the hospital due to the torture committed to my body, leaving me with bloody fluid in my lungs. After 3 days I was released and left to plot for another attempt. I rescheduled for July 17th but with my hip feeling fine and being very skeptic I cancelled and never rescheduled. Imagine that! One of the reasons for my skepticism was not that my doctor had insisted on a revision of the left hip but that he wouldn't listen to me when I said repeatedly my left knee hurts. AND it hurt bad all the time and left me unable to do my favorite pastimes, window shop at the local malls and go for walks at my favorite parks. Worse than that it would wake me at night, make me stand 3 minutes on the left leg before I could even think of putting the right leg to the floor. Then seveal minutes of " whoa, wow and please " followed but eventually the foot made it to the floor, I could walk and the knee allowed me 30 - 60 minutes of walk time before saying sit the hell down but don't sit for more than 15 because the procedure would start again. Left leg first......the best I could get was an injection of steroid in the knee and let me say, those don't feel good, last only a little while, and?then the ritual starts again. Pain, injection, feel good, thenz back to pain....you get the picture. I had 8 injections in about 4 years but not one xray. Why did I not say anything or do anything is because I thought the doc knew what he was doing yet, I knew better. The peculiar thing is, prior to my June 19 attempt at hip revision I told family and friends I didn't understand how the right knee was going to see me through the rehab of a left hip revision. I was very concerned about this. Now, as I look back , I once again can say things happen for a reason...... ...... Two months ago, I was reduced to taking the demonic prednisone dose pack?to see if it could help my knee and it did until I went off of it. Last week I could not take anymore and played with the decision what ortho do I call? My old ortho who now has as his assistant my very old ortho. My very old ortho was my doc from time of diagnosis in 1970 until his retirement a few years ago. Damn him....to leave me like that! Well he is back on?a part time basis and only assist in surgeries but hey, he is back and he knows me and knows me well. He did my original bi lateral hip surgery in 1993 as well as all of my other ortho surgeries. It didnt take me long to decide to go see my old and very old orthos for a second opinion, if you will. I told Tony before we went into the orthos office to not say anything about my failed hip revision because when I made the?appointment phone call I told them my knees and hips were bothering me. My hips were 16 years old and needed to be looked at anyway. Upon arrival I was escorted to the wonderfully hard and cold xray table for what was a trip of curiousity and hopefully a resolution. With anticipation I waited for what is now, once again, my ortho to come in and go over the xrays. Tony and I both were wondering what the conclusion would be and hoped for an answer to what was causing me to hurt. Was it the hip(s) making the knee(s) hurt or vice versa or was it just sciatica??The doc?looked at the hips first and his first 'make-my-jaw' drop comment was, " the hips do not look that bad but eventually will need some revising " . I looked at Tony, Tony looked at me and I said " which one appears to be the worst? " , like I didn't know. His response, which is what I thought, was, " the right hip is a little more worn and has some wearing that has created cysts and will likely need to go before the left " . WOW... less than a year ago it was the left! What the hell???? Ok so lets move on to the knees....... " Hmm " , he said, " the right knee is hurting alot " . No crap doc thats why I am here!! Bone on Bone, no cartilage, leaning to one side and will not come close to being straight, the doc says it needs to be replaced. Wow, can ya believe that? I knew all along even back last June it was the Rt Knee not the left hip and for this reason I postponed and postponed the hip revision. Needless to say I have shook my head alot the last few days and I have been telling myself what I have always known.... I do know my body and its alarm system better than any doc on this planet. I listened to my intuition and did not have the revision and I did follow my knees plea to call the old ortho. Medicine is a science and it is just that that it not always a given nor is it always correct but I believe the intuition the resides in us all is sometimes the best alert system we have, so follow that and precede, which is what I am doing. Although, I am still a bit confused by it all, I have a sense of satisfaction and on February 16 I will start my bodies repair work by having a new right knee put in which I know will put me back in the malls and back on my walks in the park. I know the road will be long because I also know eventually?the left knee will need replaced? along with the hip revisions but at least for now I feel I am on the right road..... Guest guest
Hi , Happy New Year to you also! Hannah is doing pretty well.  She has a shoulder that has bothering her and I'm not sure why. Not sure if its related to the fall she took when she sprained her neck/back or not. We are headed to a waterpark tomorrow for an overnight family trip. I hope she does ok. I'm sure it will be lots of stairs (for all the water rides) and of course she can't wear her knee braces. So I'll be packing the pharmacy and the microwavable heating pads. How is Miss feeling?  Any improvement since we last talked?  Beth " We can't direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails " -author unknown ________________________________ From: nancy barnes <nancyb315@...> Sent: Friday, January 9, 2009 12:39:52 PM Subject: Re: Beth Hi Beth - Happy New Year! How is Hannah doing? From: Beth Yohnk <yohnkmomsbcglobal (DOT) net> Subject: Re: surgery again @group s.com Date: Friday, January 9, 2009, 10:31 AM We tell the parents here they are their kids best advocates. I'm glad you are your own best advocate! He is very thorough on exams making sure that he feels every joint for inflammation. Also - he will spend time talking to you and never acts like he is in a hurry to get to his next patient. Guest guest
I was told to stay away from eating a lot of dairy. Some dairy was okay but did not think a lot was good. Green vegetables. No red meats. Whole grain wheat bread if you had to have bread. Watch the intake of flour. Watch the carb intake. I eat a lot of soups. I eat a lot of beans. Sometimes I will eat a big helping of just broccoli or asparagus. I love asparagus with lemon on it. Then I will eat like a chicken breast with it or a piece of fish. I don't eat fried anything. No fast foods for me. I am on a weight loss diet though too. I am on weight loss plus the liver friendly. So it will be a lot more strict for me. No pop. No carbonated drinks. No caffiene. Guest guest
Teri, and BethCertainly none of my Dr's ever suggested a special diet and most importantly, not during tx. However, my body itself dictated my food changes. I love Latte's and would have to splurge every day. Then my body decides it doesn't like them so much. Coffee, I'd lost my taste for regular coffee prior to and during the intake of Latte's. Red meat, again it was my body!! I suddenly couldn't tolerate the taste of it or anything. Except that of course, I eat the hamburger in a spagetti sauce. With the carbonated drinks - yup my pop of choice in Ginger Ale and I drink away too much of it.Then today, I don't know whatever possessed me, but while I was in town, I ordered a plate of fries!!!! Usually, if they put fries on the side of anything I eat, I never get to them. So, as I was stuffing my face, I'm thinking, so what's up with this????Gloria Uhm... after reading that... there is no way I am going to admit to what I eat.....
