This is a compilation about Gleevec furnished by the federal government. These

were all peer reviewed until 2002 or 2003, about side effects and toxicity. You

may want to see if your side effects are listed at the website.

Biological half life of Gleevec:

Elimination - Approximately 18 and 40 hours, for imatinib and its primary

metabolite, respectively.

This may apply to those on Warfarin therapy:

Because warfarin is metabolized by CYP2C9 and CYP3A4, patients who require

anticoagulation should receive low-molecular weight or standard heparin.

[Medical Economics Co; Physicians Desk Reference on line version as of July 24,

2003] **PEER REVIEWED**

Thrombocytopenia:

Grade III-IV thrombocytopenia is common in accelerated phase CML and may be a

marker for the inability to achieve cytogenetic response using single agent

imatinib mesylate.

Disposal Methods:

SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical

product with less inherent propensity for occupational exposure or environmental

contamination. RECYCLE ANY UNUSED PORTION OF THE MATERIAL for its approved use

(DOES THAT MEAN TO GIVE IT AWAY?) or return it to the manufacturer or supplier.

Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air

quality; potential migration in soil or water; effects on animal, aquatic, and

plant life; and conformance with environmental and public health regulations.
