Hi Judy. I would 2nd Chris's idea to contact your district's director of

special education. That is what my local chapter of NAMI suggested and for my

daughter it made all the difference in the world. We really do have a lot of

accommodations in my daughter's 504 and the director thought, in the end, the

504 would look better for when she applies to college. We were told they would

switch her to an IEP if they really felt it was something they couldn't put

in her 504, but so far so good. My daughter has safe places/people in her

plan, but does not have a behavior plan, so I don't know if that can go in a

504. My dd is much more likely to bolt from the school or not go at all when

she

isn't doing well. She hasn't caused other behavior problems at school, at

least not yet, and hopefully she won't. Good luck. Kim

Hi Kim,

I have been speaking with several different advocates over the past few days

that are not sure if they HAVE to evaluate my daughter either. I don't want

to file mediation or anything like that unless I have to, but I need a

behavioral intervention plan in place , just in case she does something

awful(You

know what I mean, with the bipolar on top of it all. Anything could change at

any given time!)They put down that she would get a behavioral plan IF NEEDED.

Well, that could be too late!!! I don't understand this school system!

They did say they could add accomodations into the 504, but than after

speaking to advocates they told me they don't want the IEP because than they

have

to reach certain goals, but they don't understand how they could deny her an

evaluation.

Well , thank you for listening!!!W

Hugs

Judy
