Guest guest
Our hearts and prayers go out to our friends and their families in Australia who are trying to recover from the massive weather conditions and flooding. It is hard to imagine until it happens to someone you know, or if you are personally affected. The pictures I have seen are devastating and we can only hope that there will be minimum lives lost. I have not seen any fund raisers being announced to help the victims down under, but it would be nice to see the rest of the world respond as they are always ready to respond to any disaster in any part of the world, they are the most generous and kindest people. I have met some from different parts of Australia and they all were so friendly and chatty with everyone and very funny. There was an elderly woman from who followed me everywhere I went because she didn't want to be alone. She wrote to me for some time, and after a while, I think she must have passed away. The others who passed away wrote me until the end when someone in the family let me know they had passed. Carpe Diem, Lottie Duthu
Guest guest
G'day Lottie, Thank you so much for your very kind words. One way I would like to put poor Queensland's dilemna is it used to have the slogan: " one day beautiful, the next day perfect " . Now it's " one day perfect the next disaster/holocaust " . Right through the eastern states (QLD, NSW and VIC) our country has been hit with floods and cyclones, while WA where our wonderful Sue lives is battling terrible bushfires. I live in down the bottom and our state has been hit by flash flooding again, but our little part of Aussie missed it all again thankfully. My daughter lives up on the Vic/NSW border and while she has not been directly hit by the terrible floods up there, she is helping friends with their horses who have been flooded and may not be able to get back in their paddocks for 2 months + as it will take at least this long for some of the water to go down: http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2011/01/30/3125146.htm In our state, over 22,000 sheep, 600 cattle, piggeries and poultry farms have been flooded and stock lost, dairy farms totally under water and hay, grain and other crops lost and that is without the widlife cost. It is just horrendous and this is on top of one of the worse 12 year drought we have ever experienced! Some homes yesterday were flooded for the 4th time since September last year. i also feel for America, with the unbeliveable snow storms you have been experiencing, truly we all suffering this year. If anyone would like to donate to our fund raising, this is the link for the QLD flood appeal: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html and www.redcross.org.au This wonderful poem written in 1906 by Dorothoea McKellar epitomises our country so well: I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains,  Of ragged mountain ranges,  Of drought and flooding rains,  I love her far horizons,  I love her jewel sea,  Her beauty and her terror -  The wide brown land for me.
