Guest guest
just wanted to add that we've had a HUGE moment here---my 11 year old son, who's been an increasingly obsessive vegetarian for the past 5 years---finally gave in to a few drops of fish oil last week after a one-year staunch refusal. His pediatrician, Dr. Sears, " prescribes " fish oil as an alternate to SSRIs, etc. and did so in my son's case a year ago (Sears strongly believes that fish oil will be the " prescription of choice " for therapists in the next 10 years.) Of course, my son said " no way " to anything animal, and refused. Lo and behold, after just a couple weeks, we are seeing changes. I am very much a skeptic at heart (I was a reporter after all) but I can't but wonder if this is more than a coincidence. Our son has suddenly become a little more cooperative, a little less " rule " obsessed, and dare I say...more comfortable in his own skin. Not hugely, but there has definitely been some improvement. I realize this is going to sound like a Dr. Sears commercial (sorry!) but he now has his own line of liquid fish oils designed for kids (and no, I am not on commission). Apparently it's been highly refined in order to get out the fishy taste and smell. It definitely goes down easier, but it's not exactly Hershey's Syrup either. It's lemon-strawberry or something like that (we're traveling and I don't have it with me). A teaspoon in smoothies, or mixed into peanut butter and jelly, or hot cereal, or ketchup or salad dressing...has worked great for my son. It is not cheap---I think it was $25 for a small bottle (a metal bottle, which I like). HTH, Cat > > > Hi Grace, > Just fyi, my son (adhd) 14 takes the chewable form of fish oil.. lemon > flavored.
