Dear Joyce,

I'm so happy to hear you are recovering so well, it takes time, the best

gift you can give yourself is to allow yourself the time it takes to heal.

If you get yourself too wiped out then you are more painful etc. We all

understand, so post when you can, I can't imagine I would have been posting

so soon after surgery!

Since I'm three years out from the last surgery I often wonder to myself how

valuable what I have to say is to someone who is just going through the

whole mess. I thankyou for your kind words, keeps me mindful that it's good

for those who are about to go through surgery to have someone who is awhile

down the road. I have always looked at my roll in the group to be the

optimistic one, and maybe I have pleasure of being that way because of my

good outcome, but mostly I think it's because I'm just wired that way. In

talking with my husbands Aunt this week about a friend who is struggling

months out from surgery, I really think that attitude plays a roll in

healing. 's Aunts friend is still on major pain drugs, refuses PT,

won't do the walking required etc. Works hard at making the doc's wrong. I'm

a believer in the " Seeing yourself well, working to getting yourself that

way, and arriving there " . I've had some huge disappointments along my

Flatback journey, but always kept the faith that I would come through it the

way I wanted to come out, functional and with the pain gone. Maybe I'm just

nuts, but thats just how I look at things. While I have had three surgeries

to get me where I am, one that clearly didn't get the desired results, one

that failed six months out due to a crack in my Harrington Rod fusion mass,

and a third very sucessful revision, I'd do it all tomorrow again if it

meant getting me to where I am now. I'm so lucky, I know that. Painfree,

upright, and mobile is just about the best thing that ever happened to me.

You posting while going through what you've gone through with your recent

surgery will do for someone else what I have done for you, give them hope in

a dark moment.

Joyce,

I am so happy to read your post. It helps me alot. I am in Boston at

the moment going to NEBH for all my preop tomorrow. I am out of my

tree with fear and anxiety!!! I told my sister I don't know if I can

cope until Jan 13th!! So much keeps going thru my head!! I just want

it over!!! This is such torture!!! The anticipation of it all, what

it is really going to be like for me etc....

On a lighter note, Cam I did get 3 pairs of silk PJ's for

CHristmas..!! Easier to slide off the hospital bed....

I also got the Semi annual sale catalog from 's secret in

the mail the other day...I think I found the perfect photo of

lordosis on one of the models...I am going to take it to Dr.Rand and

ask him to just copy the photo!! I guess I have not lost my sense of

humor totallY!!!! , PA

In preparation for a rather busy next 2 days I took a moment this morning to

relax and while doing so I noticed my front door coated in Christmas Cards....I

took a deep breath and looked at my boys and said to them I am incredibly

blessed. In all the chaos it only took a moment for me to notice my boys and all

they mean to me, recall what a wonderful family I come from and to realize how

lucky I am to have the most wonderful friends on the planet. As the year draws

Good to hear from you . Sorry to hear about the pain levels

increasing. When I am a food-cheat I pay the price, too. I've promised

myself, no more! Only stick to the good foods I can eat. Hope you're

feeling much better, soon. Have a very Happy Christmas, and enjoy the

holiday season. Love & Cheers - Carlene.

Yes, and be careful about too many carbs and/or sugar-laden foods

during the holidays. It can lead to a yeast infection or feminine

irritation, as well as pain. (I have ways of dealing with that when

it happens. Write dombush@... if you want info.)

Also, see

http://www.fms-help.com/what.htm

for my pain suggestions (scroll about 2/3 down the page and look for

the red writing). I have been 95% pain free for many years now,

although I still deal with other " features " of FMS/CFIDS.

For anyone new to the board, my fibro story is at

http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm

and my CFS story is at

http://www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm

What perhaps began (or contributed to) my developing FMS/CFIDS in

1982 was a sleep disorder - see

http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm - which began when I was 16. I

am now 57. Thankfully, I get restorative sleep almost every night

now with meds that my doc has helped me with. He believes that if I

can get 8 hours of sleep a night (wow....could that possibly be?), my

other problems will go away.

I agree

Just now getting over the yeast beast.

I am not a carbohydrate eater but a sugar eater either.

My Dr told me cause I love watermelon and pineapple

those have tons of sugar in it too.So watch our fruits too.

Tawny,

It's so good to see you posting again. Five weeks is a long time to be

sick; I'm glad you finally got better. I always think of you as one of

our chief cheerleaders, encouraging everyone else. So now I'm sending

you lots of positive thoughts and hope that shot in the heel isn't as

bad as it sounds.

Hi Tawny:

So glad you are feeling better now. You sure were sick a long time. I

am glad you feel able to post again, and I know how much mail you have

from our group!!! That will keep you busy for quite awhile.

I too, had that Plantar Fascia, and it was just so awful, I could bearly

walk on my foot. It took me 3 seperate shots before I got any relief.

That is when I got those fabulous shoe inserts. My feet are the worst

with RA, so I was in such agony until it went away.

I hope you continue to feel better and stronger each day. Being sick

that long takes so much out of you.

I have missed talking with you, and very happy you are back. Wishing

you pain free days, and God Bless you always.

Hugs,

Barbara

So good to see you back! Chas did almost all my shopping for me

except my trip to the mall to buy her perfume. And she suggested that

we just have steak and baked potatoes for Christmas dinner, to make

it easier on me. It's just me, her and on Christmas day but I

normally make a ham, chicken and dressing, and all the trimmings. We

just ate and fell asleep on our respectives sofas or recliners! I

hope you had a wonderful Christmas, we sure did. Take care and hope

you don't catch any grandbaby " cooties " ! My pf has been acting up

too. My brother and I both got up from our chairs at the same time

over at his house,we have our big Christmas over there. he has some

mobility issues too. Of course our kids decided we should " race " to

the kitchen and everybody got a good laugh out of it, including us!

We don't take ourselves very seriously. Smart aleck kids....

Jane and group;

I was reading your post to Tawny and I thought how wonderful. How

wonderful to just have a simple meal on a holiday and be satisfied

with each other for the simple meal for what ever reason.

I remember when times was really hard having pinto beans and potatoes

on Christmas. We had such a good time. We got each other one

present. Some of us made the presents. I made my husband a lap

blanket by crocheting it with left over yarn I had. He loved it so

much we still have it. It is his pride and joy lol. Like a blanky a

baby keeps around the house.

I am unable to make big meals anymore. My kids are in their 30s so

they made all the fixings all I had to do was be there. I had a

tummy bug this Christmas and couldn't eat but it was nice to have the

family and celebrate Christmas together. Thats what matters is

celebrating the day for what it is. Just thought I would share that

with you. God bless and take care.

gentle hugs

Clora, i am a single mom of four, and usually had someone else's

staying with me too for whatever reason. We lived in a tiny two

bedroom single wide mobile home and didn't get child support. My kids

are now 33, 31, 30, and 21. The older ones remember hunting rabbit

and squirrel for supper! Country kids.)I would play my guitar and we

would sing, they would bang on old pans with wooden spoons. I was

talking to , the oldest DD, and she says the Christmases that we

made each other's presents were the best ones. She talked about how

when they were little and we would just make baloney sandwiches and a

mayonnaise jar of tea and take off in our old crummy car with three

dollars worth of gas! We hit every free museum in Dallas, prowled

through Civil War cemeteries, went on searches for historical

markers, anything that didn't cost money we did. Although I made a

LOT of mistakes when they were in their teens, I'm glad what they

remember most is the good times we had. We used to bake a birthday

cake for Jesus, I will have to start doing that with the grandbabies.

Thanks for sharing your memories, it brought back a bunch of mine!

(Obviously !!) Girlfriend, you are such a blessing to us all.

Love in His service,

Jane
