Dear ,

The form of Gleevec as we know it would be slightly altered to follow a

different pathway that would send a signal to the genes (or whatever) that cause

Alzheimer's. I know of several people who, like you, felt completely bombed out

on Gleevec and could not continue working. I suppose you could use several

analogies, but the one that comes to my mind is people who took aspirin with

coke to make it work faster. It was the same aspirin we all took, but they

discovered that the coke made it work faster and better, or like putting an

additive in your gas tank to get the gunk out, so it is better on fuel

consumption, but it is the same gas. Remember the old gas wars, when each one

was better than the next. They all came out of the same refinery and I used to

see an Exxon truck deliver gas to Texaco. That blew my mind, because I worked

for Texaco and we were forbidden to buy Exxon gas. LOL I hope your mind is

functioning better now, but don't throw away your old Gleevec bottle, you may

need it in the future. LOL

Carpe Diem,

Shelagh, you don't have to get off the TKI's altogether. You can switch to

another drug, there are others that would have lesser side effects, so why

not try them? From the info that I have read, only 10% are successful if

they go off altogether. I think I posted it recently as the weekend. This is

a big decision that should not be made lightly. You would have to be

monitored very closely and there was a tiny blip on the radar screen, you

could well panic. It's in individual's decision and if you are scared to try

it, then try something else for a better QOL.

Carpe Diem,
