Guest guest
Hi sorry i didnt see your name. can you tell us where is your father living? There are 2 second generation drugs already approved in mnay countries which are called Sprycel (Dasatinib) and Tasigna (Nilotinib). Both these drugs are stronger than Glivec and show good results in patients like your father who develop resistance to glivec. I dont know if your father can get one of these drugs but this should be the choice treatment, unless your father is candidate for a bone marrow transplant. CML is a 3 stages disease, chronic, accelerated and blast. the treatment during the advanced phases are more difficult. with best regards Giora [ ] Low hb, tc and platelet count for CML accelerated phase Hi All, My Father, aged 52, was detected with blood cancer (CML) in 2002. He was taking glivec(Imatinib) tablets. Unfortunately, by 2010, his disease progressed to accelerated phase marked by reduced hb count and platelet count. He was submitted to one session of chemotherapy and given blood transfusion. Blood counts were brought to normal levels and he was brought back home. But, in the past week blood test showed that hb, tc and platelets was reduced abnormally (hb was 4, platelet was 1000, tc was 200). He is currently on blood transfusion again. As the doctors are not revealing much and asking us to wish for a miracle, Can someone please tell me what condition he is in currently. We are confused as there was a reduction in TC (WBC) levels too. Did his disease get worse? What could be the possible treatment options? Is there any chance for him to return to chronic phase? Options of bone marrow and stem cell transplant has been ruled out by doctors due to his weak body and age.
Guest guest
Hello Name here is Skipd. I have been on infusions of Red Cells (Hgb) and Platelets for about 3 years now. My Platelets (Plt) were down on many occasions to Zero. On many occasions my Hgb has been down to 80 or less. I cannot take any meds for my CML so I just get infusions, My WBC has been down to less that 1 and my ANC has been down below 2.0. Other than a wee bit tired I feel ok. In fact my QOL (quality of life) is pretty good, take wife shopping and out to supper. That is when my ANC is above 5.0 (should be 2000). I would ask if the Bone Marrow can produce blood and platlets. I now get infused about twice weekly at the local hospital. I am not sure where your located but 52 is not old. I am over 70. I think I would get another opinions if possible. If not I am sure someone on here will be able to direct you to someone who has knowledge in CML and Doctor's in your area. I would not worry yet, we can live on infusions what we cannot live without is Love. Hey I have lived my 3 score and 10, even if I did not have CML, I am sure your dad can as well. Guest guest
Hi, We live in India and these drugs were not suggested by our doctor. He is living on transfusions and his body is very weak. He has uncontrolled bowels and a very weak body. I feel very sad looking at him. Maybe I should ask our doctor for the medicine. Guest guest
I should add, he is accelerated phase and though he is living on transfusions but his body is very weak and he cannot move by himself. Uncontrolled bowels is another issue. We run for O-ve donors everywhere.
