Guest guest
Dear Sishma, I am sure your father is either in accelerated or blast phase. Some people do come out of blast phase, but I think they need traditional chemotheraphy first and then they are able to get one of the 2nd or 3rd generation drugs. It is not an easy process, but then if the treatment to get the counts down is successful, they can take the newer drugs, but they must have access to those drugs. I don't know if you have access to them because of the country you live in. Not all drugs are available everywhere. Each country has their own way of approving drugs, so it is hard to tell when they will be available to everyone. Your father is still quite young and may be eligible for a bone marrow transplant. I just posted something yesterday about older patients now getting BMT at a much later age. All of that is contingent upon your doctor, where he is located and funds available. It is a very expensive procedure and if you do not have health insurance, then I don't know if there is a charity that would pay for the procedure. They must be strong and healthy in every other way, as it is a challenge to the body and immune system. I hope all goes well for your father and I believe that you are the best advocate he could have. Carpe Diem, Lottie Duthu
