Guest guest
I can unfortunately speak from personal experience. I had shingles 8 years ago when I moved from a place I had lived in for almost 15 years. I was looking forward to having a home of my own - but there was a lot of physical and psychological stress- I thought they were originally bee stings. Prompt treatment can make things much better - along with rest. Hugs, > > Physical and/or psychological stress can precipitate a case of shingles. Guest guest
Dear Steph, I have get shingles and they are no fun, to say the least. That is when I learned about a Duragesic Patch, because the pain was so bad. I had a ring of sores in a line on the top of my bra line, under my arm and then down my back. Dr. said it was pretty severe, He has advised me stay away from Chicken Pox. I think the most important things is to remember that we still catch things more easily than others. Please take care of yourself. Gentle Hugs & Prayers, Carol M. in CA

Guest guest
You can get shingles only if you've had chicken pox. The chicken pox virus hangs around for years and then pops up as shingles. I believe that if you haven't had chicken pox, you can get it from someone who has shingles. Do you think maybe that's what your rheumy meant? I've had shingles, and it certainly wasn't any fun, but my PCP treated it aggressively, and I had very little pain from it. Guest guest
Hi , I’m sorry you’re so miserable, it sounds awful. I have no experience with shingles personally, other than my husband’s case a few years ago, but it makes perfect sense to me that you are having a flare because shingles can be brought on by stress. There are herbal products that can help shorten the duration. Since it’s been so long since my husband had it, I can’t recall the name but it did help him tremendously — and it has never come back. I hope you start feeling better really soon!! Kenda Hello. I haven't been on the group for a while due to a very busy and stressful life since explant. But I needed to check in today to ask this question... Has anyone contracted shingles as they detox? I just broke out with a horrendously painful case of shingles in my private regions. I have 3 patches of it from my labia to my buttock. I've never experienced anything so painful! This is so much worse than any surgery I've had. I actually was reduced to tears from this pain, me, the one who has never taken a pain killer of any kind post-op. I'm unbearably uncomfortable and the doctor told me I would likely be this way for 2 more weeks. I could really use some advice if anyone else has been through this. I can barely function. : ( Thanks, Opinions expressed are NOT meant to take the place of advice given by licensed health care professionals. Guest guest
There is also a prescription medication that can help with this. I do not recall what it is now, but my doctor prescribed it for me. IT helped tremendously. I had shingles when I was going through so much stress about explanting...It was just horrible. Ask your doctor about this. I will see if I can find what it was... > Hi , > > I¹m sorry you¹re so miserable, it sounds awful. Guest guest
Thank you. My doctor did prescribe 2 things for me, both of which I am afraid to take because of my MCS and also because I am trying to detox. Is there anything I can apply topically?? I'm going to boost my olive leaf intake and I still have the olive leaf soap and cream but have been afraid to try them. I'm in that much pain! That I am afraid to try anything. Guest guest
Shingles comes from the nerve root. Topical treatments will not help. At least that is what info. I have been told. Guest guest
For what it's worth, the doctors that I worked for used to prescribe mild steroids along with pain meds and tell you to get lots of rest and fluids for approx. 3 days. I know that many are going through the detox though so taking meds would be difficult. I guess sometimes you have to weigh out the pros and the cons for the time being. Anyway, I hope that you feel much better soon. I have heard that it is very, very painful.....:-) Dianektitko <ktitko@...> wrote: Thank you. Guest guest
Have you ever taken Viracid or Viracon? They are oral herbal antiviral preparations. I would bet either of them would help shorten the duration. I take them when I have viruses to shorten the duration. Kenda Thank you. Guest guest
Exactly, and many of us survivors had chicken pox (like the majority of older Americans). Nowadays they give vaccines for that, but I am wary of them. But shingles does attack the nerve roots, and is not affected much by topical solutions. Guest guest
, I just posted this article about shingles a few weeks ago. This provides at least a little hope and a product you can try. I've copied my previous post: In response to our recent posts on shingles, I found this in my inbox this morning, in a newsletter put out by the Health Sciences Institute. If you want to check their website, I'll provide the link. Here is the good news about treating shingles: " A case of shingles may last less than 10 days, but it's the post- herpetic neuralgia (PHN) that can hang on and cause considerable pain for long periods. Now research shows there may be an easy and natural way to get quick relief. In a study published in The American Journal of Medicine, researchers divided 30 adults suffering PHN into four groups. One group received topical treatments of geranium oil, while two groups received a mix of geranium oil and mineral oil (at ratios of 1 to 1 and 1 to 10), and a fourth group received only mineral oil. All of the subjects who received any amount of geranium oil reported pain reduction. And using a scale of zero (indicating no pain) to 100 (extreme pain), those who received treatments containing 100 percent geranium oil experienced the greatest pain relief. Little or no relief was reported by the placebo group, while relief was proportional to the amount of geranium oil in the other two groups: The more geranium oil, the greater the relief. Some subjects experienced a slight irritation from the geranium oil, but these irritations subsided within an hour or so. Injections of vitamin B-12 and topical applications of peppermint oil are also sometimes used to address PHN. More often, doctors prescribe anti-viral medications that sometimes take days to work, if they work at all. Geranium oil (extracted from the leaves, stalks and flowers of an Egyptian variety of geranium) has long been used as an anti- inflammatory and a fungicidal. So if you're diagnosed with shingles, prepare for the lingering pain that follows the healing of blisters by checking with your local health store for geranium oil. And as always, check with your doctor or naturopathic healthcare professional before using any natural or over-the-counter treatment. To Your Good Health, http://www.hsibaltimore.com/faqs.html Kirsten, if you try this oil, please let us know if it works for you! Patty > Hello. Guest guest
, I am so sorry you are suffering! I am like you....I have never been one to take pain killers. I've been suffering from excruciating dental pain lately, so I understand being reduced to tears. Please read the article I just posted about using geranium oil to help get over your pain. Let us know if it works for you. Hugs, Patty > Hello. I haven't been on the group for a while due to a very busy and > stressful life since explant. Guest guest
I think it would be available at stores like Wild Oats or any health food store that carries essential oils. I am quite certain that it is available and not a rare item to be found in larger cities. In small towns, if those kinds of stores are not available, then I think it would need to be ordered off of the internet. At least it holds some promise of relief! Guest guest
I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you are is so much pain. Hopefully this will pass soon. CAn you refresh our memories as to what you are currently doing for detox---any supplements, or herbs or cleansings you have done or are still doing? Maybe that will help figure something out. I would try large doses of vitamin C powder. Vit C in large doses can help with virus and shingles is chicken pox virus. Also quercitin helps stop virus replication. It is related vitamin C. ARe you taking olive leaf? It supposedly kills this kind of virus. If you aren't you might want to try it. If you are, it could actually be bringing it the surface in you. These are just some thoughts. Also, maybe vitamin 12 as it helps nerves and shingles form on nerve endings I think. I just did a search engine check and vit C and B 12 are both are recommended by various sites for shingles. Good luck and I said a prayer for you. love, kathy > Hello. Guest guest
oh wow .... how awful!! I had them before removing my implants but on my back that moved around to my chest... They were horribly painful I can not imagine having them where you do....I am so sorry. I will say that my hubby had them recently and they gave him Valtrex and they stopped growing any larger and were gone in a few days... I know you don't like meds but in some cases it may be worth it... I had chicken pox in my early 20's - horrible case of them. They were all over the areas you have described as well as in my mouth, ears, on my tongue ... the ones that hurt the most were the private areas - I would cringe everytime I had to use the restroom. I feel for you - I cannot imagine the pain on my back down there.... My hubby is a very strong man... never takes meds of any kind, never emotional, etc.... the shingles he had were in a very small area on his back as we caught them early and it almost drove him mad. I have never seen him in that much pain... I had some cream that numbed skin from a biopsy they had to do on Logan on one of his lovely "bumps" he has been getting from my damn implants... he didn't really hurt too much after so I didn't use it but used it all on my hubby's back a few months ago... maybe they can prescribe somthing like that - a cream to numb the area.... it only lasted a half hour or so but gave him great relief... I will look for it and see what the name is and let you know but I think it was just some RX lidocane... keep us posted love shari
Guest guest
Valtrex was what I was trying to think of - that's what I had and it was the only thing that really helped > oh wow .... how awful!! > > I had them before removing my implants but on my back that moved around to my > chest... Guest guest
hi I had Shingles two years ago this same time of year. I am told if you see a neurologist right away it will be less painful. I had waited because of the holiday season and my doctors were all away on vacation. I just took advil for pain. The pain however went into my hip. I was pretty miserable for about two weeks. The pain in my hip last for months.. I hope you are feeling better soon..
