I found out I was allergic to the preservatives in the artificial tears. My eyes were so dry I kept them mostly closed and hardly ever left the house. I had humidifiers in the house making it like a steam bath. I now force myself to drink tons of liquid . I use Lacrilube 24/7. My eyes are much better..... but it is a miserable condition! Guest guest
I consider two liters of water a day to be one of my medications. That is in addition to the coffee, milk and juice that I drink. I believe that thinking of it as a medicine makes is more likely that we will remember it. > > From: " annette2ca " <a.mckinnon@...> > Date: 2004/05/29 Sat AM 02:36:02 GMT > Rheumatoid Arthritis > Subject: Dry Eye > > I'm having more and more trouble with dry eye. The artificial tears I got at the drigstore did not help much but the optometrist suggested another type called Systane that lasts longer. Though even with that I'm using them at least every two hours. He also said drink more water to keep hydrated and also to flush all the toxic drugs more easily. I hadn't quite thought of it that way but coincidentally the methotrexate wasn't as bad this week with more water going through. BTW the amitriptyline did take getting used to. The day after my first dose I was sitting on the couch thinking that I could move maybe if the house caught fire but it would have taken a lot to get me going. I did get used to it so that taking 2 in the evening left me fine for the day. After I stopped I used the remaining pills as muscle relaxants when I got so tired and sore I could not rest. When you have no tolerance for the drug 1 pill can relax you for 24 hours. Annette

Besides the liver and kidneys, another way the body excretes toxins is through the skin. Saunas and steams baths can very helpful in this way. (Lots of water afterward!) I have access to a steam room through my YMCA membership, and I have been enjoying it so much more since being on the meds. Sierra
Guest guest
Annette, I had trouble with dry eyes also. Opthomologist put plugs in my tear ducts to try to help out. This keeps more liquid in the eyes. Well, I had to go back and get all but one removed. Seemed to cause more mess with stuff staying in the eyes. I use Systane at night and drink plenty water like everybody else suggested. I think the warm weather makes it worse so DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!!! Guest guest
I was advised to apply heat to my eyelids and then roll a cotton bud back and forth along the area near the tear duct. A simply wash cloth with warm water works well but wheat bags are even better as the heat thins the fluid. > I consider two liters of water a day to be one of my medications.
