Guest guest
The GF/CF diet does work good as it apparently has helped you to identify two more foods that probably should be removed from daily intake. Stick to it because it takes a quite a while for the gluten and casein to get out of the system. We are doing good on it, but have had to eliminate a lot of things to get it right. Of course, since we eliminated a bunch of foods we have to supplement certain things. We also grind our own hamburger and sausage. There are plenty of good substitutes for soy. We have found Vance's Dari-Free Milk Substitute is versatile for cooking, drinking, smoothies, etc. It comes in chocolate as well. Pacific brand also has a variety of milks that are GF/CF soy free. Many HealthFood Stores and Kirkman's Lab on the web do offer both. The only cheese that we have found that is GF/totallyCF/SoyF is Vegan brand available at HFS. We believe that Hebrew International hot dogs, although Kosher, do have gluten. We found Kosher's Best Hot Dogs at Sam's Club and B.J.s to be safe for our little guy. FYI---- http://www.Kinnikinnick.com has the best GF/CF/SoyF/ CornF dry goods for baking things. Check out http://www.gfcfdiet.com It has good resources. And also ph Mercola has some good stuff on his site http://www.mercola.com/ [ ] Diarrhea Our 3 year old son was recently diagnosed with autism and we implemented the gluten free casein free diet about 3 months ago. Things were going great for awhile, but just within the last 2 weeks he has been battling daily diarrhea and stomach cramps. We think it may be soy intolerance (yougurt he eats) or sodium nitrate intolerance (Hebrew National hot dogs that he eats). My wife and I being new to a GFCF diet, just don't know what to do. ANY help out there would be greatly appreciated! ny and in Minneapolis-St. MN area =======================================================

Guest guest
> is still experiencing soft stools/diarrhea for each bowel movement. > This was rarely any problem before we began the enzymes. This might mean that she is not tolerating a food [or supplement], even with the enzymes. I had that problem with my kids. We are only > using 1/4 to 1/2 capsule of enzymes (per enzyme) prior to each meal > (i.e., 1/2 cap Peptizyde, 1/2 cap ZP, and 1/2 cap Phenol Assist). I have not read any success stories with Phenol Assist [Kirkman]. If your child eats high phenol foods, you might consider trying No-Fenol [HNI]. My son did not tolerate certain foods, even with enzymes. So you might want to rotate foods and experiment a little. We > don't think the problem, therefore, is too much enzymes, and we have > been advised that in any case even if we took multiple capsules at a > time we should not experience diarrhea as a result. It is possible your child does not tolerate an ingredient of the enzymes. If you suspect a possible papain/bromelain issue, use AFP Peptizyde and SCD Zyme Prime. Guest guest
The Citrucel and other fiber can help. Diarrhea Hi y'all, I had my MGB in May, 2003 and have had a fantastic experience - no real complaints, just occasional challenges. It's just one of those journeys where you learn little lessons as you go - what food agrees with you (or not), hair loss, maximum numer of tight-cheeked steps from the toilet, etc. All these things are very minor considering the many incredible and subtle benefits of the weight loss. Just a question, though, for the experts out there - it seems, like many others, that I get diarrhea often, maybe about half the time. I see reference to this on the boards as if it's a very bad thing, but is this level of diarrhea really harmful in any way physiologically, or is it just another one of those minor inconveniences? No opinions or wive's tales about people who have turned themselves inside out, just informed input please. Guest guest
Diarrhea can be a side effect of any antibiotic. It could be that you have to start slowly with your abx to give your body a chance to adjust. By that I mean take half-doses or less; if you do OK after a few days to a week, increase the dose. Until your diarrhea is under control make sure you drink lots of water. Jessie > > Hi All, > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
Lida Do your probiotics contain Saccharomyces boulardii (sp-print is really little)? It's an important one from what I've read- along with many others too tho. You're braver than me starting right off the bat with full dose and both antibiotics- I generally start slowly with stuff, like someone else just posted. I've never taken 2 antibiotics together either- at least at this point in time. Rose Marie > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
Jessie -- your suggestion is a sound one. I wonder why the nurse did not suggest it? Yes, I incresed my water intake, which the nurse did recommend. I am taking rather high doses to start with, Ketek 400mg 2xday, Amocycillin 500mg 3xday. The highest abx I've taken was Doxycyline 100mg 2xday. Maybe that is what I will end up doing. Thank you. -- Lida > > > > Hi All, > > > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
Rose Marie -- No, neither of my probiotics contains this strain. Did your doctor tell you to start slow or did you just do it on your own? Maybe that is what my IDS MD meant when he said he did not believe in this approach of LLMD. I just hope I will not end up with new other problems that I did not have. Thanks for your reply. -- Lida > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
You might try a banana every few days to help control the diarrhea. I found that goat's milk increased my tolerance to the abx. cheers Duncan > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
Lida It's used to help prevent C. difficile which causes diarrhea- I couldn't find an actual article about it- try googling it. I did find several posts from various folks on several groups. One lady said that Zithromax was notorious for causing this, that's why I started it awhile back. He puts on the antiobitic prescriptions to Use 1 or 2or etc blank times a day- so kind of leaves it up to your own tolerance I guess. From what I've seen about people's doses he's kind of in the middle with doseages. I do it because if I have a problem I would know about it before it would really be a problem. As an example- I slide into the water and don't dive in as I'm not a good swimmer and I'm leary of the unknown. From what I understand it's good to have a variety of good bacteria in your probiotic, but maybe that's what they say to sell it. Only thing I'd know is to look up stuff and read. Hope it resolves...it could be die-off I suppose also. Take care Rose Marie --- > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? I thought it was from food allergies. I guess my doctor had a different idea. He suggested taking the saccharomyces boulardii in addition to the already constant intake of other probiotics. It worked! It worked really, really well. And quickly. After steady use of, oh, maybe one to three bottles worth, I could stop using it. The brand I used was pure encapsulations. My local vitamin store ordered it through Emerson Ecologics (online). If I'm remembering correctly, some pure encapsulations cannot be ordered by consumers on the website. But there are other places where you can buy it without being a health professional. Good luck. Deanna
Guest guest
Deanna -- Thank you for all the info. Thank you Rose Marie for bringing up the name of the importance of the saccharomyces boulardii in the GT tract. My nurse called back yesterday to suggest I eat hard cheese which is binding and to increase my probiotics. It is hard to do it at night , capsules will not go down when I lay down. Also hard to go back to sleep. So not much sleep last night. I am to call back next Thursday if it doesn't improve. I appreciate your replies. -- Lida > > >> Do your probiotics contain Saccharomyces boulardii (sp-print is > >> really little)? Guest guest
If you are refering to pseudomembraneous colitis otherwise known as C. Difficile it is actually advised NOT to take anything binding like Metamucil or Imodium. As uncomfortable as it is the diarrhea will get the C. Difficile out of one's body whereas if you slow down the removal it gives the bacteria more time to cause internal damage which can ulcerate the gut. The best treatments are Flagyl which will knock down the number of C. Difficile in the gut and daily probiotics that contain Saccharomyces Boulardii. There is a Flagyl resistant strain of C. Difficile emerging that can be treated with long term Cipro. There was also a recent article in Newsweek I believe that stated Zantac has been found to also cause C. Difficile to flair. I picked up C. Difficile while working in the hospital and have have it 4 times, so unfortunately I have become well versed on it. It is not something to play around with or take likely as yes it can be deadly. > > After a surgery i got a pseudomonous infection........very deadly. Guest guest
As spirochetes die off and produce neurotoxins you will often see a change in the texture of stools. On Zithro mine get fluffy and I have heard that from others. It might be a good idea to get the stool test as dark stools sometimes indicate blood in the stool. SOMETIMES not always. Your probiotics should keep stools from becoming too loose. If not then it may not be very good quality probiotics or your timing may be off as you need to take them 1-2 hrs after abx. Are you taking Ketex after eating your goat yogurt? I believe calcium binds with Ketex which makes it lose effectiveness. > > Hi All, > > Has anyone had problems with their stools? Guest guest
The majority of antibiotics bind with calcium and magnesium rendering the abx ineffective when taken with food containing the minerals. In addition Zithromax also binds with Iron. One should never consume Vit C and Bactrim as it can cause kidney damage. One needs to research each of their antibiotics to the nth degree because doctors do not know these things and pharmacists often forget to tell patients. > > I always tried to take mine with some goat or soy milk and food. > > cheers > > Duncan >

Guest guest
-- thank you for your reply and info. Yes, I do take Ketek with my breakfast when I eat the goat yogurt. The nurse actually said I should introduce cheese into my meals because it is binding and also said good because of calcium. (I have spinal osteoporosis) I was told to increase my probiotics to 3-4 each time and if no hange/improvement in stool to call back. She said they may run a lab test. My stool is mushy not ormed into a shape. I bought and started yesterday Sacharomyasis boulardii, 1.5 billion plus 200mg Bio-MOS (Mannan Oligol Saccharidel). I take my probiotics 2 1/2 hours after abx mid-morning, mid-afternoon and started also 4 hours after my dinner. I take bothabx with breakfast, lunch and dinner. I take supplements at the same time. Guest guest
Lida, The nurse may have said it is ok, but that doesn't mean she knows what she is talking about. You would be surprised how many people are not well versed on the interactions of meds. If you take your abx with calcium and magnesium containing foods you are the same as just throwing away your abx. It will do very little good if that is the case. There is also such a thing of taking too much probiotics. If you take more than your body needs you can get severe herxing from that and/ or diarrhea. There are other things that can cause diarrhea besides Lyme and herxing. You might want to keep a food diary. IBS and lactose intolerance both can cause diarrhea. Maybe you need to switch brands of probiotics?? My experience is I had chronic diarrhea for 6 years and I went on Primal Defense and it stopped in a matter of days. Are you on Flagyl? You might have C. Difficile and severe diarrhea is a symptom. You can get the dr to order a stool test for that if you are suspicious. There are a lot of possibilities. The thing is taking something binding is not the solution. You need to find out what is causing the diarrhea and address that issue not cover over the symptoms by eating binding foods. If your dr doesn't understand this then perhaps you need to find a better dr. > > -- thank you for your reply and info. Yes, I do take Ketek > with my breakfast when I eat the goat yogurt. Guest guest
ANGELA, I started the diarrhea 2 days after taking Ketek and Amoxicillin both are abx. Ketek is known for causing diarrhea, one of its primary side effects. At this time I was taking probiotic mid- morning and 2 mid- afternoon. Good brands.PB8 and Iai switched from Ultimate Flora to New Chapter All Flora. The Ultimate Flora had FOS in it and it is not good to take, I learned. Neither contained saccharomyacyn b., though. I did add this on with aseperate capsule and increased my probiotics to 3 capsules 3x/day. Saccharomyasis boulardii, 1.5 billion plus 200mg Bio-MOS Mannan Oligol Saccharidel). Should I be concerned about the MOS since it is some type of sugar the S. b. needs to feed on? No I am not on Flagyl and never have taken it. Thanks for pointing out the interaction of Ca and Mg with abx. This is extremely important to me because I have spinal osteoporosis. I need to check this out. I will start taking my vitains and Ca & Mg an hour after taking abx. That means for me eating again to take it to absorb it. This is 3x/day like that. Additionally, I will need to squeeze in my Probiotics inbetween. I would expect my LLMD's triadd(?) nurse to know the contraindication with CA & Mg. No, I am not intolerant to lactose. I only eat goat yogurt because I love the taste. It is similar to what I grew up with when living in former Czechoslovakia, today Czech Republic. I guess the nurse is mediocre. I will be talking to her next week if things don't improve. She did say they will check my stool. She did say, however, this is very normal and people's bodies usually adjust. So sooooooooorry to hear about your struggle with C. Difficile. Know nothing about it, thanks Margh for pointing out the article in Wash. Post. If my memory (with Lymbrain) serves me well, it seems that a long time ago we discussed here the problems with abx effectiveness when taken with dairy. In fact, a couple years ago a patient won a lawsuit against a pharmacy because the boilerplate printed info sheet on the antibiotic prescription said something like " take pill with a glass of milk " to avoid stomach upset. I'm not sure, but I think it was Doxy. And the woman got worse and worse with Lyme and won the case because dairy nullifies the effects of particular abx. As I said, I know the story is true, I just don't remember *exactly* which abx was involved in the lawsuit, or which ones have that problem with dairy products and calcium. And, yeah, it's hard to find a time to take all these pills you can't take at the same time. The only time I can take green clay, which I use for neurotoxing binding, is in the middle of the night when I wake up to go to the bathroom. When someone writes one of those funny poems about Lyme, remember to include this one. Deanna
Guest guest
Deanna -- most interesting info, thanks. I did research on Google for interaction of Ca & Mg with Ketek but found no information. I did find out Ketek has half life for 10 hours in the system. Are archives that hold this info. I'd like to read more, please. -- Lida > > > I would expect my LLMD's triadd(?) nurse to know the contraindication with CA > > & Mg. > > If my memory (with Lymbrain) serves me well, it seems that a long time ago > we discussed here the problems with abx effectiveness when taken with dairy. > > In fact, a couple years ago a patient won a lawsuit against a pharmacy > because the boilerplate printed info sheet on the antibiotic prescription > said something like " take pill with a glass of milk " to avoid stomach upset. > I'm not sure, but I think it was Doxy. Guest guest
Consider using Nystatin for yeast. It's not so hard on the liver. --- dannenedrummond <dannenedrummond@...> wrote: > Can diflucan cause diarrhea?
