Guest guest
Dear Jams, Like Bobby, I had fair skin and now it has a different pigment, much darker. I don't think I could have said it any better than Bobby. We have had CML for about the same time and nearly the same age. She claims to be a year younger, but I don't believe her one bit. LOL What country do you live in? If you have private insurance like we do, we have a choice, but I do understand if you live in a country where everyone has insurance furnished by the government, then you have less control over what drug you take, but it is worth talking to your father's doctor about it. You will hardly ever get what you don't ask for, so go ahead and ask, or get another doctor if you feel it is necessary. Gleevec is known for making you nauseous and that is where the problem lies, from what you explain about his symptoms. I was so sick and nauseous for 3 years, I lost 90# and I wasn't on Gleevec at the time, although I was on it for 4 years. If your father won't eat, try to get him to drink things like Ensure if the doctor will approve of it. Can he munch on a boiled egg, that has a lot of protein. One of the things my husband prepares for me is mashed potatoes and you can always put a little ground meat in it with cheese on top and put it in the broiler to let the cheese melt, but if he has a problem with potassium in his blood, then that is not allowed. I don't know much from what you said, but he needs to eat something. I also took Nexium at the time. Maybe you could furnish us with more information to get a better answer. You will have to get creative and think of things you can give him. Good luck, you are doing a wonderful service for your father by contacting other people with CML, we are always ready to help.
