Hi All

Today in Australia nationally - Australia Day is celebrated.

This is a great honour and I thought I would share

I was presented with being the winner of the Premiers Award for Active

Citizenship 2011

Sue Hurt won the City of Swan - Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Award

for 2011

Sue Hurt would like to say thank you for not only being nominated; being a

finalist but being the

Winning Recipient of the Premiers Active Citizenship Award for 2011.

This award is just as much the communities Award as my own.

The reasons for nomination were three fold.

a.. My active participation as Secretary of a community group and highlighting

to the community awareness of issues via a Ratepayers Association Inc.

b.. My community network, with the ethos and logo of " Working for the

community to success outcomes " .

Leukaemia Foundation

For the active committment of raising awareness in the general community, fund

raising for critical medical research on behalf and in support of the Leukaemia

Foundation. Sue was also named an Ambassador for the Foundations' Light the

Night and raising awareness through fund raising via her community soup kitchen

and being the Light the Night Campaigns highest WA individual fund raiser for

2009 and 2010.

The Western Australian Premier, Hon Colin Barnett presented the Premiers

Citizenship Award 2011 at the Australia Day Awards to Sue Hurt

Sue gave an acceptance speech to politicians for the 3 tiers of government being

the WA Premier, Federal Elected Representatives, State Representatives, Mayors,

Councillors, City and Shire CEO's; Business and Community Leaders on the need

for both Federal and State Governments to manage their budgets and dig deep for

more monies for critical medical research into cancers especially stem cell

research; finding cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and related blood

conditions. To also give monies to universities for more graduate placements for

post graduate studies for Haematologists and much needed haematologist nurses.

A number of Federal and State Representatives spoke to Sue after the Awards and

agreed with her position on more funding.

I am Very humbled and honoured to receive the Premiers Award and to highlight

funding for critical medical research in Western Australia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had a great day, met so many people, feet are tired from new shoes and being

frocked up ( meaning new dress).

Note: Virginia Garner from Team in Training and her husband have also raised

hundreds and thousands of dollars for critical medical research while

she has lived in the shadow of CML. Virginia was my original fund raising

inspiration, and I thought if Virginia can do this, so can I.

I salute you Virginia. I have had a blast and now awards such as being the Light

the Night White Balloon Ambassador and lead the way on the Walk of Light the

Night

and now a Premiers Citizenship Award for fund raising for the Leukaemia

Foundation.

I would also like to thank you all for your continual support. Mind you I am

still in my infancy of living with CML - August 2011 it will be 4 years.

Keep Well All

Sue
