Guest guest
Hi , You may have selected HTML format to send mail. So your message have two parts, one as HTML format, the other as text format. Text format is attached for the people who can't receive HTML format. IMHO text format is preferable in mailing list or News group. Please check as follow. In OutlookExpress menu of tool > option > send > sending format for mail, choose " text format " . Regards, Norio > Ken and wrote: > > I need some feedback please. Guest guest
This gets very confusing. The print in what you returned to me is large. And I have no idea why all the rest is there. Some people say there is no repetition and the print size is fine. Is it just an incompatibility between e-mail software? rheumatic attachments > > >> >~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >
Guest guest
Hi ! I still see your fonts as very small, however, all I do now is click on " view " in my Netscape and increase " my " font viewing size; works great. If I were you I would not worry about it anymore as I believe everyone can do the same thing I am doing to combat the problem. Have a great day! Guest guest
Because attachments slow down the list, and in some cases cause people's computers to crash. We had a strict rule against attachments on the old list, but people violated that rule all the time. It's one of the reasons we moved to ONElist. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, This is your list, if you want to send attachments please do. And I understand about viruses. And they have become treacherous of late. But I stand corrected and take back my request. But again I say know who you are downloaded files from. Have a great day, laugh and love a lot, laughter is healing and loving is good for you. LOL... Joan in Florida AIH, Cirrhosis, HPB
Guest guest
This virus stuff is scarey. Especially being a person learning my computer. Hoewever I enjoy the stuff being sent through this group, Trouble is how do we know when things like this happen? I assume when I see emails with this group name on them I never consider any of them to be harmful. Is there something that will make a computer alert me? If so where do I go to get it? Guest guest
Hi Joan, I'm a little confused. I don't understand how 'our' not sending attachments will prevent our group from receiving viruses. Most viruses attach themselves to the poor soul's address book and mail themselves. We are at risk of getting a virus from anyone who has our personal or group email address in their book. I suspect this is what happened today, I don't think this member sent the email - it sent itself. We are more likely to open and run an attachment from people we do know. People have to have antivirus programs and become familiar with the differences between hoaxes and real viruses. I sent a URL earlier which has all the information. Guest guest
Gayle, I bought and installed Eudora Pro a few months ago. I'd been using Eudora Light (free by download from Qualcomm) for years so thought I owed 'em some loyalty. I'm fairly sure that it was Eudora's built in Internet virus program that spotted the PrettyPlace virus. I was so startled to get the warning, I deleted the e-mail and attachment immediately. I don't know if " Light " includes a virus protection, but considering Eudora has been installed for several months, I'm impressed that it spotted the virus characteristics and warned me. I received PrettyPlace with a Liver Support return address, and of course, we don't know all of the names since many people " lurk " and never post online. I don't know if I'd have been suspicious if I hadn't had the Eudora warning not to open the attachment. Since my e-mail also is downloadable from three other places, the danger from PrettyPlace was still there. Eudora has the option to not save any mail or attachments on your server (AT & T Worldnet, Mindspring, AOL, etc.) so I changed my option and now only have e-mail available through Eudora. These viruses are malicious (and so are the people who create them) and all of us who receive e-mail are vulnerable. And, probably it will get worse, though maybe not if there are a few successful prosecutions. Of course, PrettyPlace apparently originated in France, so what can US courts do? A good virus protection program and updates at least offer some protection. Don suggested McAffee's over Norton's, and his reasoning sounded good to me though I'm stuck with Norton's Anti-virus for now unless I want to shell out some more money. Take care, Geri

Guest guest
Sometimes when I reply to a message, I get announcement that it is being sent to half dozen places other than the one I am intending to reply to. Guest guest
Hi Gayle, I feel the current best antivirus program is McAfee Antivirus. You can download their program from their web site: www.mcafee.com. Norton also makes a popular program which is downloadable from their site. www.symantec.com Don

Guest guest
Geri, As soon as all of you warned of the virus I found a 14 day free trial for macafee and put it on. Then a friend of mine sent me another program to clean my computer, then I went to scandisk which took 2 hours. I am just freaked by this, I am finding my computer " I have waited for for years " to be my life and my new career. I CAN NOT understand what benefit anyone gets by sending or even creating a virus. No one will see a computer crash. Yet I do understand. It is so unfair to do to people especially the ones who can't afford to replace programs or buy parts. And I agree I look forward to all the things this group has offered and shared in their letters. So when that virus came with this address I had no reason otherwise to question the download. Being the exclusive and type of group this is I felt totally protected I thought. However I have decided not to allow this incident to rattle me, I have a wonderful computer wizard who takes care of my computer. Even though I did download this virus I couldn't access it got bored and went to something else. I love the cards you all send and have recieved so many cool web sites I pass on as soon as I get them. The special ones I collect on disk for my electronic scrapbook. Every day I am thrilled to have tons of email to read and so far have met some really great people. Gayle
Guest guest
Don, Thankyou for telling us about the macafee web page. I downloaded the 14 day free trial. Pisses me off that things like this happens. Gayle
Guest guest
Gayle, Apparently this group was hit hard by the PrettyPlace virus. I talked to Norton Anti-Virus people on the phone today and they didn't seem to be especially aware of it. My son, with his limited income and isolation, is getting so much pleasure out of his month old computer. It infuriates me that he was hit with a virus, but I'm not so sure it's the same one because he didn't get any e-mail with attachments, he said. On my recommendation (from Don and others in this group) he called this afternoon to tell me he'd just purchased and was downloading the McAfee anti-virus program. I reinstalled my Norton's and now have to find out from Don how to keep it from causing system problems. This group is very important to all of us and I think we all resent having to feel suspicious of our incoming e-mail, attachments and links. My son is now afraid to even open his e-mail until he has McAffee's installed. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
Gayle, Don't let it rattle you. I've been on the net for over 10 years. I've only been infected once. Guest guest
Gayle, Computer viruses go with the territory, they've been around since the early 80's. They're primarily directed at big corporations and governments, we're just innocent bystanders. It's the nature of the virus to replicate itself and it can do different types of damage. The way prettypark got into our group is by infecting the computer of the group member. Then, it replicated and sent itself to the email addresses on file in the victims computer without his/her knowledge. If the attachment has the extension .exe it's an executable program. You would have to save it and run it to activate it. Be especially careful of that type. There are other viruses as well, the more you learn, the more protected you'll be. There's no such thing as the 'simple life' any more. Barbara Ann AIH Transplant Recipient
Guest guest
Geri, my computer got infected with the virus, too, it was the post I opened right before Barbara Ann's warning post. I immediately deleted all the addresses in my email address book and ran McAfee. It was certainly trying to dial into ICQ's constantly, until I got it off my system. Amen to what you said. Since you are using , I dont know how to help you with attachments or colours or any of that as I use Outlook Express. However I am sure someone else here must know.... Anyone here also using mail and knows how to do what Leigh needs?? "Could anyone tell me how to do attachments, graphics, different font colors and sizes?" I'll try to find out. Is there a selection for options? Usually there is a link or button for attachments that you press and then choose the graphic/pick that you want to attach. As for colours... I'm not sure that you can do that using internet web browsers....??? Janalise or Sonja might know more - they are both whizzes at this stuff *HUGS* Love Aisha. ___________________________________ *Medical Resources and Support*http://www.elderwyn.com/medicallinks *Aisha Elderwyn*http://www.elderwyn.com/aisha
