Guest guest
i read that it is something in the grapefruit that is bad for us, and many others on other medication. not the Vit C. I will try to get that info and post it. Sharon _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Gilles Sent: Monday, January 24, 2011 1:26 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Lemon : yes or no ? Hi Emile, I think you have to be reasonable with fruit juice so as not to get too much Vitamin C. ''Here's how the research was done. The team pretreated some leukemia and lymphoma cells (and did not treat others) with the form vitamin C takes when it enters a cell. Both sets of cells were then exposed to a range of chemo drugs including Adriamycin, Platinol, Oncovin, methotrexate and Gleevec. The effects were then measured and a 30% to 70% cut in effectiveness was observed'' Extract of http://ezinearticles.com/?Straight-Talk-on-Vitamin-C-During-Chemotherapy\ <http://ezinearticles.com/?Straight-Talk-on-Vitamin-C-During-Chemotherapy-Tr eatment & id=1642832> -Treatment & id=1642832 <http://ezinearticles.com/?Straight-Talk-on-Vitamin-C-During-Chemotherap\ <http://ezinearticles.com/?Straight-Talk-on-Vitamin-C-During-Chemotherapy-Tr eatment & id=1642832> y-Treatment & id=1642832> See also http://www.cmleukemia.com/food-and-drug-interactions.html <http://www.cmleukemia.com/food-and-drug-interactions.html> Sincerly, Gilles No. 1129 of Zavie's Club I have a question for anyone who is on Gleevec . Guest guest
here it is: Sharon Grapefruit and medication: A cautionary note Grapefruit and grapefruit juice are healthful, providing enough vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, and other nutrients to earn the American Heart Association's " heart-check " mark. That's the good news. The bad news is that grapefruit juice can interact with dozens of medications, sometimes dangerously. Doctors are not sure which of the hundreds of chemicals in grapefruit are responsible. The leading candidate is furanocoumarin. It is also found in Seville (sour) oranges and tangelos; although these fruits have not been studied in detail, the guidelines for grapefruit should apply to them as well. Grapefruit's culprit chemical does not interact directly with your pills. Instead, it binds to an enzyme in your intestinal tract known as CYP3A4, which reduces the absorption of certain medications. When grapefruit juice blocks the enzyme, it's easier for the medication to pass from your gut to your bloodstream. Blood levels will rise faster and higher than normal, and in some cases the abnormally high levels can be dangerous _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Gilles Sent: Monday, January 24, 2011 1:26 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Lemon : yes or no ?
