Hi everyone, i am a hairstylist and i do believe that perms are ok to use. The

chemicals that are in perms just change the molecules in the hair so that the

hairshaft swells up so your hair feels fuller and wavier,it does weaken the

hair. There are 2 kinds of perms an acid wave which requires heat to process the

main ingredient in that is glyceryl and monothioglycolate. Acid waves are less

damaging to the hair and in my opinion do not hold the curl as well. The 2nd one

is an alkaline wave the ingredient in that is ammonium thioglycolate it does

not use heat, this perm does well for resistant hair. I don't think todays hair

colors cause cancer, years ago they might have when the hair colors had lye in

them and i think they still do in Europe. Because of stricter laws in the US

they are not allow that ingredient in our haircolors. There are ofcourse a

million brand of haircolors that have milder ingredients so you would have to do

some research but the milder they are they don't hold up as well.As far as the

Brazillian staightners I myself don't get anywear near them they all have

formadyhide in them even if they say they don't they do.The ones that do, do the

best job if you make it thru the proscess without your eyes getting irritated

and your nose gettin stuffy. Some of the others like the Brazillian blow out say

no formaldyhide they cost around $350.00 and last 2 to 3 months this does a nice

job, the other one that say no formaldyhide and is very mild is called Keritan

Express, it does a nice job and only costs $65.00 to $85.00 but you have to do

it every 6 weeks , but people who can't handle their frizzy curly hair love

the staighteners and i can't blame them cause they look so much better and they

hardy have to fuss their hair.

all this is just my opinion. Sorry for the long post

Take care

Esther

liked how I looked with straight hair. My mother used to allow me to have one a

year when I was about 12 or so. I have heard that dyeing your hair was a

suspect in some types of cancer and I did that, too, but have not in many moons.

I don't think the dyes have any effect on cancer, either, it only goes as far as

the shaft. Maybe we have some professional ladies who do that in their practice

and can shed more light on the subject.
