Dr. Talpaz visit

Hi everyone, Mon. my daughter drove me to Ann Arbor for my visit with Dr.

Talpaz.  Normally it's 3 hrs to get there, 3 hrs. there and 3 more back home.

Not this time.  The good Dr. Talpaz said my ekg was indicative of a heart attack

and sent me to the ER.  I did not leave until Wed. afternoon!!

The good news is 1) I did not have a heart attack, I had a stress test and the

heart is fine. 2) the cardioversion (shock the heart back into normal) worked

and I am no longer in Afib.

Not sure why the ekg read that way, I think one of the doctors said it could

have been due to the cardioversion,.  Anyway, they did help with the shortness

of breath.  They said I had too much fluid in my body, heart and lungs included,

and loaded me up with lasix.  I have lost 11 lbs since Mon. am.  I feel much

better, have not been short of breath , just a wee bit on occasion. They said

there was not enough oxygen in my blood and that is what made the heart work

harder, causing SOB.  So, 11 lbs lighter, I feel better.

3) the other good news is I don't go back until May, and will finally be on a 6

month visit schedule.  they sort of flew by the 3 month ones.

Hans and Beth, if you are reading this, are you on 3 month or 6 month schedules?

Have a great day everyone, the sun is out here in Ohio and the snow has melted,

looks great to be gone, but now they are worried about flooding.  Always

something,  Bobby

Bobby,

I'm assuming they ran blood work called cardiac enzymes to check to see if you

had a heart atack?  Also do you have CHF?

They did a ton of blood work, ekg's, but mainly  they did a stress test.  She

referred to fluid but did not specifically call it CHF, there is also pleural

If I were you I would ask what your ejection fraction is.  They should give

you

a number in percentages. Normal ejection fraction is 50-70%.   Usually if

someone has CHF the ejection fraction  is usually lower than 45%.  Which means

the left ventricle the main pumping part of your heart is not pumping out your

blood to your body efficiently.  This can cause you to retain fluid in your

abd, lower extremities, and your lungs.   I'm not trying to scare you just

make

you more aware.  Also, I have seen false positve and false negative stress

test-just an FYI.  One of the only defentative cardiac test that can check

your

coronary arteries is cardiac catheterization.

Bobby that must have been scary! They say that women don't know their having

heart attacks before it kills them. Wow. I am so happy to hear from you. When my

HGB use to be low, I would get short of breath too. Was yours ok?

Happy that your home and you don't have to return til May. That's great news.

God Bless,

Bobby,

That is wonderful news!  I'm glad you are feeling better.  Now to have so much

time between visits- that is great.  I will still be monthly until...who knows

when?  I'm glad you are well.

Bobby,

Wow! Never a dull moment. Very scary update. I am so glad to hear you are

feeling better and getting back on track. Yikes!!!

(I am on the 3 month schedule; although in close touch with my study coordinator

at the moment as I re-started about a week and a half ago and we're carefully

watching to make sure no side effects kick in...I did go through the bone pain

all over again on re-entry which was a nightmare, but the pain did pass after 72

hours.)

Hang in there! You are an amazing woman.
