Guest guest
Dear Sue in AU, One cannot imagine the devastation until you are in the midst of it or have previously experienced it. I hope I never do. Here we have to worry about winds and rising water during hurricane season from June 1 to November 30. Forest fires in our area are nearly unheard of, except the ones set by the hunters to push out the little animals they are hunting. The smoke, mixed with the fog in unbearable and sometimes the roads are closed. They also burn the cane fields after harvesting. We are all happy that you are relatively unscathed in comparison to some of the others in your area and I cannot imagine losing your horse, I know they are like family to you. There is always something in a big mess that you can be thankful for and that is that you are safe. There are a lot of unsung heroes in the world, and everyone who came out of their safe zones to fight these fires are to be commended. When surrounded by fire and smoke, you lose your sense of direction and could well lose your way. It is nefarious enouigh when it is an act of nature, but unspeakable when set by a human. Let's hope it was not fanned by arsonists. This will be the year that people will speak of for years and say, " Remember when.... " I hope the world is responding and coming to your aid. Here are some places that are accepting donations for the victirms: http://www.australianhorserescue.com/news/2011/01/26/online-equine-auctions-floo\ d-relief/ http://sports.espn.go.com/action/bmx/news/story?id=6110175 http://www.cnngo.com/shanghai/eat/throw-lot-more-shrimp-barbie-fundraiser-austra\ lian-flood-victims-833993 Sue, if there are others that folks can send money to, please post here. God bless you all. xoxo Lottie
