I don't think I have hit my " sweet spot " yet. I have about 6.5 ccs in my

Realize band. I need to make another appointment soon. I can definitely eat

more than 1 1/2 cups though.

I have definitely learned to eat around my band. I used to be a bread addict,

but after the band, I learned very quickly what bread does to me, so i think I

started to fill that " CARB CRAVING " with things like crackers, cereal, ice

cream, and chocolate. Mind you, that isn't what I eat regularly, but it has

become more than just the occasional snacking lately.

So, in all, I know that I am completely at fault for not losing...I just don't

know how to get back on track the way I was the first 3 months.

You've answered your own question. See below.

We often need counseling to help with making choices, including

exercising and food. I highly recommend it.

As you know, the band isn't magic, and is just a tool to help. It

will never stop you from drinking milkshakes, eating soft foods, and

so forth. It also will not make you exercise.

Ali,

don't beat yourself up, we are all humans, we all make mistakes, just try to

figure out what you are doing wrong, and fix it, nothing else will work if you

are at right restriction, the rest is up to us-I know pisses me off sometimes

too, the band really has a lot more to do with the patient than RNY or DS--hope

that helps

Thanks Dan. You are right. I have actually started seeing a counselor about 7

weeks ago, which is probabaly the reason I am able to take accountability for my

own actions at this point...

Aside from the other obvious responses related to fill levels, It sounds like

something changed regarding your motivation at 3 months/30 lbs.  Perhaps losing

the first 30 pounds made enough difference to you that you just accepted it and

you lost some of the initial motivation.  You made it under 200# and that is

awesome.  Many people have a " stop or set point " around 200# and it just takes

a little extra motivation or effort to get beyond that and start losing again.

Was there a certain event or experience that motivated you to get the lap band

to start with?  Perhaps you need to revisit the feelings you had at that point

and rekindle them so you can get going again.

I noticed that you are a Dr. Curry patient (is that the same Dr. Kuri in

Mexico?)  if so has it been difficult to get the fills you need?  I was banded

in Mexico and I had to find a doctor here in the states to work with me on my

fills because it has become unrealistic for me to travel to mexico for fills or

follow up.

Perhaps revisiting your original motivation will help you get past the

obstacles that are preventing you from losing weight now.  If not, finding new

motivation might be what is needed.  Personally I took up running and that

added new motivation for me to eat right, I have gone up and down about 10# from

my original goal of 155 and even a few pounds makes a difference when it comes

to how my hips feel after I run.

Hi Everyone...

I have been mostly a lurker here for about a year, primarly because I have been

feeling really discouraged.

I acknowledge that I have not been making the best choices in food and have not

been exercising the way I should be.

And here I am, 15 months later, and still only down the 30lbs I lost the initial

3 months post-op.

I am really looking for advice on how to get back on the wagon and get going

again.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone...

, you are right. I think that getting below 200# and feeling better about

myself caused me to lose some of my resolve. And no, Dr. Curry is in

Cinicnnati,OH and has been pretty easy to get in to. I am in Columbus, so I

have to either drive the 1 1/2 hours to his office, or schedule on a Friday (he

is here every other) at his office space here in Columbus.

I can't believe I'm saying this!!!Diets do work. You just have to find one that works for you.Think of it as a lifestyle change and not a diet cause you'd eventually stop dieting when you reach goal, but if you stop, you'll gain your weight back. You also have to be realistic about how much you eat now (if you find your eating a lot,cut that in half.) Don't try to go from 2000 cals to 900 or something like that cause that will throw your body into starvation mode. It's accustomed to taking in so many calories a day,but if you start changing your eating habits slowly you can re-train your body ( not just your body but yourself as well) to feel

full on less food.Maybe you can cut out all the junk food but continue eating your normal servings of nutritious foods and just do that till you get used to not eating the junk.I THINK,to lose weight you needed to cut 500 calories a day and you'd lose about a pound a week, and if you add exercise to the mix you'd lose about a pound and a half to two pounds a week.Don't give up!!!!And remember to get your fiber in,that not only helps with the constipation but it's what fills you up and keeps you feeling full longer-slow to digest. Good luckDaisy

Low carb is not going to work for you unless you believe in the principles AND it is the way you like to eat naturally. I don't hype low carb for any inherent magical properties, I still believe that calories count. The reason I do low carb is because of how it makes me feel physically and emotionally. A ketogenic diet helps me even out my menopausal flying hormonal dives. Lol.

No diet "works" unless it is the one that fits like a glove. I know many of you disdain the word diet and prefer to call it a lifestyle, but whatever the effort is that reigns in the eating and pushes moving of the body more, it has to the the things that feels the best and the most natural or one will eventually reject it.

I did not binge because I wanted to eat carby foods and felt restricted on low carb. I found myself having trouble with living alone and having no structure to my days. I leaned on the booze for entertainment and that lead to extra meals, because as I age, as my weight reduces, I cannot handle the booze like I use to. That in itself is hard for me to deal with, it is yet another sign on aging.

I am sure you will find the right combination for yourself that will just feel so right and you will know it.

Hello Ladies,

The low carb failed on me, just could do it, was hungry and also consipated...so gave that up. I have not did no fitness videos yet. The weather here is humid in the 90s and just relaxing with the ac on. I must realize that diets don't work and fitness does. I overeat, but not active at all. Am a light/moderate active and I must work on doing my videos of or Sansone. My workout room is hot and waiting to cooler weather when the sun goes down so I can do them.

I am maintaining at 406 for this week. So I am going to focus on keeping fitness more..and start doing some crunches for my tummy area.

Hoping the weather is good by you and keeping cool. Have a great day!

Low carbing lifestyle was not for me, and don't understand the low carb way of eating. I read plenty of self help books on overeating/binge. and with my own past dieting efforts, which was a balance of a healthy meals.I been told by a current dietican that diets don't work, it slows down the metasblism. I have not seen/heard any successes with low carb and don't know how it works without any fiber rich foods.

Glad that low carb works for you.and much luck with your continue efforts.

Lillian-I am on low carb-but I have 30 or 40 grams of fiber

every day! I have to eat at least 100 grams of meat a day-but then the calories

after that I can have fresh fruits and veggies and such. In order to have a

slice of bread-it has to have at least 3 grams of fiber and to eat cereal-it

has to have at least 8 grams of fiber. The things I am supposed to eat

rarely-preferably never are pasta (unless it is protein fortified), regular

bread, white potatoes, rice (unless it is wheat or long grain)…cheese (except

cottage).

So it isn’t the carbs with the good fiber they took out…it is

the empty carbs. I still have 5-7 fruits and veggies every day! I just eat my

burgers without buns, eat my tuna without bread, etc…

I am not here on the group to push low carb. Everyone has different styles and tastes and needs. It works for me. You didn't mention what plan you were trying to follow, so I am not sure what it was you didn't like about it. Fiber is not a problem on low carb, there are plenty of veggies to eat and fiber rich foods like flaxseed meal.

Like I mentioned, the best diet or "lifestyle" is the one that makes a person feel really good, helps reduce the weight to normal and is fairly easy to continue indefinity.

It's not so much low-carb vs low fat that flies around the Internet and

media, but a term I read when I first looked into SugarBusters all those

years ago - RIGHT carbs.

" Carbs " is such a loaded term - it can mean whole grains like quinoa and

brown rice or it can mean Dunkin Donuts and Coke. All the " low-carb "

food plans push the right carbs - the whole grains, the starchy

vegetables (in moderation), but not all the " low fat " plans do, and they

usually allow things like sugary snacks and white flour, and aren't

particularly low in fat, either (30% - 40% calories from fat isn't

really low fat, just a wee bit lower than the normal American diet of

fast and junk foods).

All those studies that are talked about, like yesterday's news report of

no real difference in the long term in cholesterol in low fat vs low

carb diets, all compare food plans that are more similar than different.

Hi there,

Have you tried making Bee's Egg Drink? It's a very filling breakfast and it's

easy to make. You could even make it in the evening when your are more mobile

and put it in the fridge over night (blend again before drinking it).

The drink is also a considered a complete meal, so you can also have it for

lunch and/or dinner. To keep it warm, you can put it in a thermos and take it

with you if you are out of the house during lunch time. I suppose you can also

do the same overnight, but I don't know how long it would keep warm overnight.

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/recipe167.php

Another easy breakfast is boiled eggs with lots of butter on them. You could

have that with some pre-made broth along with your coconut oil.

As you progress on Bee's diet, your arthritis pain should ease. I know mine

has. :o)

Hope that helps!

K, May I suggest trying to get your veggies in the form of soup instead of drinks? Soups are a great way to "hide" veggies so you aren't so aware of them. You can also add veggies to things like muffins and other baked goods, sauces, etc. Perhaps you can work your way up to the veggie cocktails, but don't be so focused on them when you are clearly not embracing them yet. My daughter has been vegetarian most of her life (her choice, not forced on her) and she and I came up with ways to hide the veggies she wasn't so fond of, but needed as part of her vegetarian diet. Stews, such as ratatouille are another good way to sneak extra veggies in. We add things like summer squash to spagetti sauce, or use various squashes/pumpkins for making ice cream that is tasty and totally healthy. There are plenty of ways besides

just a drink to get those good veggies in yourself! From: K <kamako@...>Subject: struggling Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 11:35 AM

Good morning, enjoying reading all the hints etc.

I am struggling to drink the veggies. I know you have to start "somewhere."

I've been off sugar for a few months now (except Christmas got ahold of me)

So I know that helps. The fruit smoothies tasted like heaven this weekend.

Without any added sweetener.

I tried the garden coctail again this morning with less tomato and added half an apple to sweeten it up. I hope I can find something nutritious that will go down easier. I can't say I am a vegetable LOVER, but I eat most of them ok.

there are some I can't get down.

Just babbling.

Have you tried my "Cold Green Soup" recipe? It can be made thinner and made into a veggie drink - if you try it, let me know what you think...

Yes, I was thinking the same thing this morning. I like the soup, and there was a few things in the demo that I don't care for, but you don't taste it in the soup. Thanks for the encouragement.

i so agree with the go as a soup with the veggies advice. my husband is not a

great fan of cauliflower and i'm making great soups with the vitamix that he

things are marvelous. even the brocolli soup was a hit!.

and sometimes my soups turn out more like a sauce which means i can either add

more liquid or use them over other meals as a sauce and get the veggies

incorporated into his meals that way.

i prepare his meals to take to work and he's always had good soups for that:

produce mostly organic from the farmers market each week.....but always chunky

soups. now with the vitamix i can make the soups so that those veggies he's not

keen on are so disguised and more palatable.

K,

Try adding several different fruits to your veggie smoothies..does wonders to

hide veggies strong taste. Over time you'll be able to decrease the amt't

fruits.

We use pumpkin or a hard winter type squash (butternut, acorn, etc) as a base for most of our smoothies and ice creams. Pumpkin is LOADED with nutrition. We just roast them whole, puree the pulp and freeze it into cubes. I often pre puree the pumpkin with cream (or rice milk), pumpkin pie spice, and agave nectar and store the frozen cubes-PERFECT for throwing a few in the VM for a super simple ice cream. Crazy as it sounds, we also like "stock pops" where we make a savory popsicle from veggie stock-full of herbs and goodness fresh from the garden. Of course we only like those in the summer! My daughter often has "ice cream" for breakfast, and laughs that she can turn the teachers head by telling them that, then trying to convince them its "healthy ice cream"-yeah right! I imagine they picture her mowing down a carton of

Ben and Jerrys, lol.
