Guest guest
Unfortunately, it does happen. My understanding is that you do gain a benefit from any time the virus is undetectable as it gives your liver a chance to at least " rest " if not to regenerate slightly. I am only 6 months since ending treatment and will see the doctor in November for my next follow up. We do believe that the treatment at least slowed down the progression of cirrhosis, but he is detectable. It's discouraging isn't it? Guest guest
My understanding is that the odds of relapse occurring is 50% after treatment. This of course depends on genotype. The 50% odd are with Genotype 1a. > From: Dorothy <dorv@...> > Subject: RE: Re: Relapse > Hepatitis C > Date: Monday, August 25, 2008, 6:49 PM > Unfortunately, it does happen. Guest guest
Many people who respond during treatment end up with a detectable viral load after treatment. The standard of care looks for a response as a reduction in viral load of at least a '2 log drop'. If you start with a viral load of 1,000,000 IU you need a viral load of 10,000 IU or less after 3 months of treatment. The best way to do that is to take at least 80% of the interferon, 80% of the ribavirin and 80% on schedule (100%'s are optimum). Genotype 1 (a & response is about 40%. Types 2 and 3, and all their subs, is over 80%. The overall response rate is 50%. Many people have done a second and even a third round of treatment before they cleared the virus. Guest guest
Thank you, May be its what I'll have to do - one more treatment. My doctor sending me to get second opinion, he was suprised by my relapse, because I have 2b genotype and had undetectable load after 4 weeks on, but when I came for a follow up 3 month later after 24 week treatment I've had 3 million load. > > > > Did anyone experienced a relapse after going through full > treatment? > > > > Thanks. > > >
Guest guest
I am 2b and was also undetectable at 4 weeks and throughout my 24 week tx. I remained undetectable at 4 months post tx and will go back again in November. I would expect that a second opinion will suggest re-treating and I think it would be a good idea for you. Generally, if you are undetectable so early, it's a very positive indicator that you will win the fight! If I were you, I'd take another shot at it, but that's easy for me to say since I don't have to do it (I hope.) I wonder why your doctor is asking for a second opinion? Good luck! _____ From: Hepatitis C [mailto:Hepatitis C ] On Behalf Of irinarains Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 7:33 AM Hepatitis C Subject: Re: Relapse Thank you, May be its what I'll have to do - one more treatment. Guest guest
My doctor told me that I was one of two people with not 1 genotype who relapsed in his 10 years of practice, another person had lots of other health issues which doctor said must lead him to relapse plus he is in his late 60s and does not want to go through treatment again. I am in my late 30s and in good health other than HCV, my doctor thinks I might have some autoimmune issue, he did some blood work and one of my parameters is slighly higher and may be an indication of it. Honestly I an not sure why he sending me to get second opinion, but this other doctor suppose to be very good and I'll give him a try what he has to say. Thank you for your response and I hope you will stay virus free. > > > > > > Did anyone experienced a relapse after going through full > > treatment? > > > > > > Thanks. > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Good Morning All! I have a question for anyone who was on Gleevec at one time and was doing well and then relapsed. Did you have any symtoms? What were they. I remember right before I was diagnosed getting cold sweats and weakness. I am just recovering from the flu so these could be related to that!! Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks and blessings, Jo-Dee " The way I live my life, helps my neighbor paint his picture of God "
Guest guest
Joanne  Have you had a series of tests that indicate you have relapsed? I would suggest you make a call to your Dr to see if she/he feels you should do so. There are many things that woudl cause you to have the symptoms you described.
