Guest guest
Hi Kathy: Maxalt can cause seizures and muscle pain in the legs, and many other side effects that can be severe. You have to watch what you take. I question everything that any doctor prescribes for me. I do not think it had anything to do with the Gleevec itself, but it could have been a combination of the two drugs together, or just your body reacting to the Maxalt.     I suffer with bad Arthritis, and I have learned to live with it. Ask your Oncologist what you can take for a severe migraine headache.    I am allergic to Naprosyn, and my primary was going to prescribe some type of ointment for me to rub on for my Arthritis. I asked her being I was allergic to Naprosyn, wouldn't this medication still penetrate into my system even though it was not taken orally. She said that she was glad I asked, and definitely it could effect me even as a topical treatment.   Hope your feeling better now. From: Kathy Giglio <kathykormos@...> Subject: [ ] Rhabdomyolysis Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 12:04 PM  Hello everyone, I don't post much but like to read to keep up on new developments. Has anyone ever heard of someone on Gleevec developing Rhabdomyolysis? I was hospitalized for a few days with it. I take 600 mg of Gleevec a day and have been doing well with just some swelling around the eyes and some fatigue. I have been PCR undetectable for about 2 years now. I developed severe pain in the muscles of my legs which made it almost impossible to walk. At the same time I developed a migraine headache and took something for that called Maxalt, which I had never taken before. I then had some kind of episode like a seizure. My husband took me to the hospital and my bloodwork came back with high CPK enzyme, which sometimes indicates a heart attack. CPK enzyme in the blood indicates muscle damage, my heart was fine, so I'm sure it was the muscles in my legs that was causing it. They didn't figure out what happened, but my CPK started going down and they sent me home. My legs are feeling much better now.  I see my oncologist tomorrow, so I'll see what he says. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else on Gleevec has had this? Thanks for all the good info.  Kathy
Guest guest
Thank you for the response . I agree that we need to watch what we take. I usually take only Gleevec and a potassium supplement. I agree the seizure, or whatever it was, was probably caused by the Maxalt. The muscle pain definitely came first, though. It started at least 24 hours before I took the Maxalt. I am feeling better now! Thank you. > > > From: Kathy Giglio <kathykormos@...> > Subject: [ ] Rhabdomyolysis > > Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 12:04 PM > > >  > > > > Hello everyone, I don't post much but like to read to keep up on new > developments. Has anyone ever heard of someone on Gleevec developing > Rhabdomyolysis? I was hospitalized for a few days with it. I take 600 mg of > Gleevec a day and have been doing well with just some swelling around the eyes > and some fatigue. I have been PCR undetectable for about 2 years now. I > developed severe pain in the muscles of my legs which made it almost impossible > to walk. At the same time I developed a migraine headache and took something > for that called Maxalt, which I had never taken before. I then had some kind of > episode like a seizure. My husband took me to the hospital and my bloodwork > came back with high CPK enzyme, which sometimes indicates a heart attack. CPK > enzyme in the blood indicates muscle damage, my heart was fine, so I'm sure it > was the muscles in my legs that was causing it. They didn't figure out what > happened, but my CPK started going down and they sent me home. My legs are > feeling much better now.  I see my oncologist tomorrow, so I'll see what he > says. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else on Gleevec has had this? Thanks for > all the good info. >  > Kathy > >
