Guest guest
I don't normally respond to many posts, but this one I couldn't pass up. Yes, there are shortages! Drug companies either can't or won't make them anymore for their own reasons. It seems like every day there's a new drug on the list. Solu Medrol is a biggie, especially in a spinal protoccol situtaion. The docs have to realize pharmacies have no control over the problem. We can beg, borrow, or steal all we can get and hope it lasts. Once again, this is where a technician can play a bigger role by monitoring the use of drugs on hospitalzied patients by conserving quanitities, making sure the dose is needed before compounding. Oh! Don't the doc's comment bother you. Regards,

Guest guest
When manufacturers go off shore, we not only loose jobs but also the medication. Guest guest
It doesn't help when the GP can only or will only prescribe for 28 days. Added to that that you can't get another prescription until the 28 days is almost upon you. Last month I was back and forth from the GP and the chemist trying to sort out my daughter prescription because one item was out of stock. OK I had the energy and time to do it but that's not always the case for everyone. On this occasion though Boots was very helpful and would have sorted it for me but it would have taken longer and the medication was needed quickly. It is distressing for the patient. > > Hi > > Saw this one on the news, looks like it's not just Natural Thyroid > drugs with problems > > http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/health/8214713.stm > > Nick >
Guest guest
-Hi, if you use a regular chemist, can you have a chat to him, explain what is going on world wide and ask him to put aside your needs for the next 3/6 months. Explain the seriousness of the situation for your family. F > > It doesn't help when the GP can only or will only prescribe for 28 days. Guest guest
Hi Nick, Just like to say that my cousins husband works for Glaxo and he is being made redundant in the next month,as they are closing down.He has worked for them since leaving school and he actually makes the drugs. He has no idea what he is going to do,as they are not the only drug company to close.I cant understand why they are closing as there seems to be more and more sick people these days, for one reason or another.I would have thought the recession would have caused people to become unwell due to job losses etc.Because of the amount of sick people there are,the drug companies should be cashing in big time! Sorry to hear that. Are the swapping production to some cheaper place in the world, that seems common these days as firms try and make maximum profits. Guest guest
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., plans to introduce legislation in the new Congress to address a shortage of some cancer drugs and other meds. (Minneapolis-St.) Pioneer Press: Senator Seeks To Ease Drug Shortage As a shortage of some cancer drugs and certain other medications persists, a U.S. senator from Minnesota is proposing legislation she says will help federal regulators address the problem. Star Tribune: A Push To Ease Prescription Drug Shortages According to (Sen. Amy) Klobuchar (D-Minn.), 150 drugs are now considered in short supply in the United States -- twice as many as five years ago. As a result, she said, she plans to introduce legislation to speed up the availability of substitutes, including comparable drugs from other countries. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/212672.php ************************************ Cells can experience uncontrolled growth if there are damages or mutations to DNA, and therefore, damage to the genes involved in cell division. Four key types of gene are responsible for the cell division process: oncogenes tell cells when to divide, tumor suppressor genes tell cells when not to divide, suicide genes control apoptosis and tell the cell to kill itself if something goes wrong, and DNA-repair genes instruct a cell to repair damaged DNA. Cancer occurs when a cell's gene mutations make the cell unable to correct DNA damage and unable to commit suicide. Similarly, cancer is a result of mutations that inhibit oncogene and tumor suppressor gene function, leading to uncontrollable cell growth. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/info/cancer-oncology/ FYI, Lottie Duthu
