Guest guest
Hi Kath, Gosh , this sounds just like my dd! Is there any bipolar disorder in your family? Does your dd's moods switch frequently? Hugs Judy
Guest guest
Hi Judy, No, her moods don't really switch freqeuntly. Her behavior seems to be triggered by anything oppositional to how she is feeling at a particular moment or when she is stressed over something. As far as I know we don't have bipolar in our family?? I know others have suggested this. Thanks, Kath ************** Start the year off right. Guest guest
--Kath, I have a six year old who had the same behavior on prozac. It worked for the OCD, but she became very ODD ish. She was put on a mood stabilizer and risperdone and has done very well, at times this bleds through a bit. doctor said it was prozac making her hyomanic. Hope that helps, Kath - In , mykeirkel@... wrote: > > Dear Dr. Chansky, > > My 8-year-old daughter was diagnosed with OCD/anxiety and ADHD 5 years ago. > She suffers from " just right " OCD.......she needs everything to " feel " and > " be " just right, from her clothing to her hair to her shoes, ect. Guest guest
Our son was diagnosed with OCD at 7 and is now 16. His symptoms spiked in 8th grade. We were able to reduce many of his symptoms, but beginning school work remains a big issue. He does some of his homework and he has just been able to hand in work weekly that isn't complete or doesn't fully meet his standards, which the school accepts it for credit. He puts off even attempting large written assignments until the very last moment. He will then sit in front of the computer for hours over a period of several days trying to start. Eventually something " clicks " and then he is able to do the work in about the same time as his peers. His psychiatrist has convinced him to try therapy again (3rd time). Is CBT likely to help with his " procrastination " and is there anything we should know, ask, etc. when we meet with the psychologist? Thanks.... Guest guest
Welcome. My 6th grader struggles with his homework too. He'll finally manage to get it done, but can't make himself turn it in because he doesn't think it's good enough. It seems easier for him to get started, at least, if we allow him to do his work in front of the TV. The therapist has no problem with that, so it's our new approach. I'm still battling, however, with getting him to admit he has homework in the first place. Hope you get some helpful answers. Ask Dr. Chansky Our son was diagnosed with OCD at 7 and is now 16.
