Guest guest
, Your very welcome ;o) If you check out some of those techniques, that will essentially be the main exercises for tort that your pt should do. If you don't feel comfortable with the exercises, you can certainly incorporate the carrying technique if you feel wasted time is happening while your getting the helmet. The hold will seperate the neck and shoulder with your arm in between, this is great, and its super easy! Plus, they usually don't care because your holding them! Also, try to prop Lucas' head midline in the carseat, swing, you can do this with rolled up receiving blankets, whatever works for you. Sometimes we even used a stuffed animal! It seemed to stay better! Good luck to you and you are doing a great job and all things necessary for Lucas! Keep us posted and if I can help, let me know! Guest guest
, Thanks for all the info on tort and PT, stretches, etc. Lucas has tort as well along with the plagio. EI has already sent the paperwpork thorugh for PT< OT and speech therepy I am just waiting on the therepists to call and set it up. Hopefully they will call this week as next week we will be gone to get the band and then we will miss out on all this time. We had the final paperwork for today and will be starting PT this week. Thanks for clarifying what the difference was for meTaryn,Ok, scratch that last email asking you to share your story with me!! That is really great that is starting pt this week. Make sure you learn as much as you can from the pt so that you can incorporate doing daily stretches as well. You will be 's biggest pt- so your job will be tough as you need to stretch out that muscle, make sure the posture is correct (midline) with props, etc. You are doing a great job already by concentrating on the tort- chances are, the tort is either causing the plagio, or making any existing plagio worse with constant favoring of the non-tort side. You have to address the tort first because a helmet/band will only be as good for as long as she wears it if the tort is allowed to continue. Also be aware that sometimes with tort they tend to pull up on that side with their hip, shoulder, even rib cage. did the shoulder and rib cage was shifting already by two months, but with pt and massage to pull those extremeties back downwards, he resolved those issues with flying colors. If has left tort, reposition her on the left side as she is probably favoring the right, and vice versa. If she has limited ROM to the left, turn her head towards the left when sleeping, etc. as much as possible. We had the greatest luck with stretches when was fast asleep, but always take stretches slowly. I will attach a link with some great exercises and a carrying hold. Also, if you haven't already, check into www.torticolliskids for some great advice and support from more tort parents. If I can help you with tips, advice, support as well, please know you have my ear too! Good luck and keep us posted on how is doing! Info on TorticollisStretches/ HoldBaby Massage(for the baby massage, try to use that in a way that will help give the neck muscle some stimulation, in a downward motion- very lightly- but if any facial asymmetry is present, we found massage upwards also beneficial for the facial features as the muscle pulls down the facial and ear features, and will pull up the upper torso (shoulder, rib cage). Hope this helps a little!! I know your at the beginning of your journey, hang in there, your hard work and worry will pay off in no time!' Guest guest
, If your a visual learner, those links will be just the ticket!!! They show diagrams of the head/neck and how to turn it, etc. As well as the hold, there are pictures to show you all of it- sorry I didn't mention that! Including the baby massage link, all visual directions. Let me know if you need any further help understanding the diagrams. ' Mom
Guest guest
, I have not had a chance to click on the links you gave, but I plan to when I get some time. Could you explain some of your stretches & PT info in more detail. Is that possible? I am a very visual learner and for me to read something like this is like trying to read Greek....LOL! I am always the "guy" who puts things together by the picture, not the written directions. I aplogize for asking, I feel like such a ditz. You (and the rest of the group) have done so much for me and my family, I am very blessed and grateful.
