Guest guest
Hi, I have a 7 month old with a flat area in the center back of his head. We are going to see a specialist next week to determine whether he needs a helmet or other therapy. My pediatrician reluctantly gave met he referral, b/c she does not think he has brachycephaly. However, I have tried repositioning/ more tummy time for about 2 1/2 months, and although it looks a little more rounded, it is not much better. At this point, I am angry with myself for not pushing for a referral earlier. In the meantime, I have other quesitons . . . does anyone know if the " noggin nest " would be too small for a 7-month old's head? I realize every baby's head size is different, but I'm just wondering if there's a general age range for this pillow. And at this stage, will repositioning or pillows like these have any effect?? thanks, p.s. I'm also curious about another product in the One Step Ahead catalogue -- a special pillow that supposedly " molds to baby's head to relieve pressure. " It has foam rolls on either side. Has anyone tried this? Are the foam rolls detachable?
Guest guest
, I can't give any input on that pillow, but I know that repositioning with my little guy was useless once he started rolling over (even before because he would wiggle out of whatever position I put him in) He's now almost 11 mos and still not banded due to closeminded drs in my area!! Anyway, you still have a lot of time. What does your doctor think it is, if not brachycephaly??? Although, head hasn't gotten worse since we first noticed the flattness at about 2 months, it hasn't gotten any better, either. Do NOT let the drs " poo poo " you. If you think a helmet is what you want to do, push for it and push hard. The sooner you get him in it, the better. Where are you located? I am sure there is someone here who can give you further guidance if that is what you want/need! Guest guest
Best of luck with the appt. I may be following soon behind you with since her head doesn't seem to be getting better with repositioning. We are starting PT next week for her tort and I plan on asking the PT what she thinks we should do. The Noggin' Nest isn't really a pillow...it's an insert for the car seat and any other seats you may put them in. is 4.5 months old and she still has plenty of room in hers for more growth. I wouldn't think they would outgrow them. It's nice because it keeps her head off of it also so it probably wouldn't matter how big their head was. I also have the special pillow you are talking about. We have been using it for almost a month now. Everything is detachable. It's like a support with positioning rolls. They are all velcroed and can be moved around. I recommend this also. The pillow has memory foam which keeps the shape of their head and it seems have helped somewhat. It's called Head N' Back to Sleep. Hope this info helped some!!! Taryn age limit for boppy noggin nest? Hi, I have a 7 month old with a flat area in the center back of his head. Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group! We're happy you have joined us. I didn't use either product you are questioning, but see you have already rec'd a great reply from Taryn with some input. We have some more repositioning product information in our " files " section, then click " repositioning folder " . This has links to a few diff. repositioning items. It most certainly won't hurt to continue with your repositioning efforts. It is great you have noticed some rounding over the past few mos with your repositioning efforts. That is great you have an appt with a specialist next week. Please don't be angry with yourself for not getting a referral sooner. SO many of us have beat ourselves up over " waiting too long " or just taking your Drs word that it's nothing to worry about & will round on it's own. We trust Drs opinions, unfortunatley they aren't always right. Good luck at your appt next week, there's a great list of questions that you can print & take to your appt at www.plagiocephaly.ort/support " questions for the Dr " . These might help. Please let us know how the appt goes...welcome again Debbie Abby's mom 3/1/00 DOCGrad 6/01 MI > Hi, > I have a 7 month old with a flat area in the center back of his head. > We are going to see a specialist next week to determine whether he > needs a helmet or other therapy. Guest guest
Hi , I used the noggin nest, and there is no real age limit where you can use it in a swing, or bouncy seat. But, in a car seat, at one point got too tall for it, because there is a particular place where the car seat belt goes, and 's head coudn't rest in the center anymore. Unfortunatly, I can't remember when stopped using it. I haven't tried the head'and'back to sleep positioner, but she is probably too old for it at 7 months old. On the other hand, you can buy memory foam of whatever shape you want and could probably put in as an extra layer under the sheets in the crib so that wherever she sleeps the pressure on her head will be relieve a bit, you could also probably use it in a car seat. Guest guest
I am glad you clarified that about in the car seat, . I never would have thought about it myself.
